Deuter’s works show expertise in graphite pencil, colored pencils, oils, and pas- tels. Deuter became interested in the Native American People through the photographic works of Edward Curtis. She is self-taught, and uses her own photographs for reference material. Deuter’s artworks have been published in magazines, a children’s book and they featured in the revised edition of the book, “The Encyclopedia of Colored Pencil Drawing.” After living in Southwestern Colorado for eight years, Deuter moved to Florence to be close to the ocean, and to enjoy the many outdoor activities available year-round. She is a member of Florence Regional Arts Alliance (FRAA), 121 Maple St., where several of her art pieces are on display. “My creative work is my joy. The women decided to gather donations of money from the two agencies, friends and members of Florence Elks Lodge No. 1858 to buy school supplies and first-aid equipment for students at Mapleton Elementary School. They gathered every supply on the back- to-school list — enough for 31 students to have a Siuslaw Valley backpack filled to the brim.
