Sam Phillips: The Man Who Invented Rock ’n’ Roll By Peter Guralnick Book review by Kevin Mittge In January 1950, Sam Phillips opened Sun Studio, originally called Memphis Recording Service, in Memphis, Tenn. An Alabama native, Phillips had been a disc jockey and radio engineer for a local station in Muscle Shoals before moving to Memphis. The rooms may be scheduled up to four hours and are available on a first-come, first-served basis; the rules of use are other- wise the same as for the larger conference room and Bromley Room. Please note that one of the rooms is equipped with a white- board, and both rooms are equipped with a dictionary, the- saurus and MLA handbook.
