Correction
In the Coast Life article,
“Elegant at 80,” page B1, in
the Aug. 10, 2016, issue of
the Siuslaw News, Conde B.
McCullough designed and
built a total of 12 Oregon
coast bridges, not 10, as the
article stated. Also, the
Siuslaw River Bridge is not
the only drawbridge. The
Reedsport bridge, a swing-
span bridge, also is consid-
ered a drawbridge. Siuslaw
News regrets the errors.
Tomorrow is the Day!
Mayor Joe Henry
Proclaims August 25
“From the Heart Dentistry Day”
From the Heart Den stry Day—Thursday, August 25
What it is…
Who it’s for…
From h e Heart Dentistry is the annual event
established by h e Korando Dental Group to serve
underserved and marginalized men and women
in Florence with free dental care. Patients can
choose from a thorough cleaning, an extraction,
or a i lling at no cost. h is year’s event takes place
from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at h e Korando Dental
Clinic, 1705 22nd St. in Florence.
Anyone 18 years old and older who cannot af ord
to pay for dental care is welcome. We typically
see between 40 and 50 patients each year, and
some are referred to other medical professionals
when unexpected health problems are discovered
during the dental exam.
Whereas:
The City of Florence is a City in Motion…
How you can help…
And Whereas:
The Korando Dental Group’s not-for-profi t subsidiary, From
The Heart Dentistry, sponsors the annual From The Heart
Dentistry Day to serve those underserved populations…
Why we do it…
h e shortest distance between two people is a
smile. h at’s why, for more than 30 years, From
h e Heart Dentistry has worked to improve lives
through free dental care for those who need
it most, but who just can’t af ord it. From h e
Heart Dentistry volunteers believe each patient is
deserving of respect and dignity, and needs just a
little help that will have big results for their lives.
From h e Heart Dentistry is a non-proi t
subsidiary of h e Korando Dental Group.
Financial contributions are tax-deductible. Even
though all of the work done during From h e
Heart Dentistry is donated by dentists, denturists,
dental hygienists, pharmacists, dental assistants,
doctors, and nurses; your i nancial support will
buy additional cleaning supplies, anesthesia,
and post-appointment educational resources for
patients so they can maintain their dental hygiene.
You can contribute securely online by credit card
at korandodentalgroup.com; make a contribution
in person in the oi ce at 22nd and Pine St., in
Florence; or by mail to: From h e Heart Dentistry,
PO Box 159, Florence, OR, 97439.
Mayor Henry presents Charles W. Korando, DDS, with
mayoral proclamation during August 1 City Council
meeting
And Whereas:
A City in Motion cares about the well-being of its
underserved populations…
And Whereas:
In recognition of the importance of quality dental and
health care for all, and their impact on other aspects of a
person’s overall well-being…
Therefore:
I, Mayor Joe Henry, proclaim Thursday, August 25, as From
The Heart Dentistry Day to encourage all citizens to be
extra mindful of their own health, and to support those
who care for the health of others.
In particular, I urge the citizens of Florence to help fund
benefi cial non-profi t community programs such as
From The Heart Dentistry Day, so the underserved of our
community can receive compassionate care from those
willing to provide it for free—as the Korando Dental
Group as done for our community for more than 30 years.
I hereby offer my personal gratitude to each of the event’s
volunteers and sponsors who will make this day a success
for dozens of our citizens-in-need.
Thank you Mayor Henry!
