OBITUARY
Hawaii, in 1946, he attended
Punahou School from the 5th
grade through high school,
graduating in 1955. He then
attended Colorado A&M (CO
State) for one year, then spent a
year as engineer on the square-
rigged schooner California,
filming a TV series in the
islands.
Graduating from Air Force
Cadet Training on Sept. 1,
1959, he received his AF com-
mission, pilot wings and mar-
ried Donna Lynn Proteau the
same day.
Assigned to B47 aircraft for
Strategic Air Command, Don
became an aircraft commander
flying out of Pease AF Base in
New Hampshire. In SAC, he
was a member of an alert crew
during the Cuban Missile
Crisis and the Berlin Wall con-
frontation.
In 1963, he transferred to the
Hawaii Air National Guard to
fly the F102 single engine
fighter. In Honolulu, he was
division manager for the paper
division of AMFAC/ Kimberly

pleaded guilty of theft and
criminal trespass. She was
sentenced to two days in
Florence City Jail. She must
pay $600 in fines and not con-

Tanner Glen Mace pleaded
no contest to criminal trespass.
He was sentenced to two days
in Florence City Jail. He must
pay $100 in fines and not con-
tact or be in or about the resi-

Edgar Rodriguez pleaded no
contest to refusing a breath
test, driving with a suspended
driver’s license and initiating a
false report. He was sentenced
to two days in Florence City
Jail. He must pay $1,425 in
fines.
Carrie Amillia Sherman
pleaded guilty of theft. She
must pay $50 in fines.
Bernadette Lee Dillon
pleaded guilty of attempted
forgery. She was sentenced to
10 days in Florence City Jail
and must pay $4,278 in fines.
Stephen Michael Boening
pleaded guilty to attempted
unlawful
possession
of
hydrocodone, theft and unlaw-
ful entry of a motor vehicle.He
was sentenced to 10 days in
Florence City Jail and must
report to Emergence Addiction
and Mental Health Services.
He must pay $550 in fines and
not contact or be in or about
the residence or place of
employment of the victim.
Jesten Eugene Holloway
pleaded guilty to criminal mis-
chief. He must pay $728 in
fines and not contact or be in
or about the residence or place
of employment of the victim.
Aug. 16
Alena Cardinal pleaded
guilty to two counts of theft.
She was sentenced to 15 days
in Florence City Jail. She must
pay $625 in fines and not con-
tact or be in or about the resi-
dence, premises or places of
employment of the victims.
John Wayne Fanger pleaded
no contest to a hit and run col-
lision. He must pay $780 in
fines and not contact or be in
or about the residence or place
of employment of the victim.
His driver’s license is sus-
pended for 90 days.
Nicholas Don McIntire
pleaded guilty to attempted
possession of methampheta-
mine, theft and criminal tres-
pass. He was sentenced to four
days in Florence City Jail and
must report to Emergence
Addiction and Mental Health

Returning to the Big Island
in 1968, Don started Kona
Industries. Building two subdi-
visions, numerous condomini-
ums and single family homes;
Kona Industries was the largest
builder on the island at one
time.
Don was one of the founding
members of the Kona Home
Builders Association and
served as the first Chairman of
the Kailua Special District
Commission, past-president of
the Kona Mauka Rotary, Kona
Mauka Trollers and Kona
Sunshine Owners Association.
After retiring, he served on
the board of directors of the
HICDC, a nonprofit develop-
ing self-help and low income
housing on the “Big Island.”
In 1999, Don and Diane
moved to the mainland and
travelled extensively before
building a home in Florence in
2003.
Don was preceded in death
by his parents; his brother
David; and sister, Elizabeth.
He is survived by his wife,
Diane; their children: Neil
Walker of Denver, Colo., Diane
(Mike) Swartzendruber of
Dallas, Texas, and Linda
Walker of Battle Ground,
Wash.; five grandchildren and
many, many friends.

McNeil Walker, 79, formerly of
Florence, passed away Aug. 16,
2016,
in
West Linn,
Ore.
He
was
born
June
26, 1937, in
Kealakekua,
Territory of
Hawaii, to
the Rev. G.
Donham
Shannon
Walker
Walker and
Helen Bell Walker.
In 1939, the family moved to
Hilo, Hawaii. During his
father’s sermon on Dec. 7,
1941, news of the Pearl Harbor
attack two hours earlier
reached Hilo. All parishioners
were advised to prepare for
immediate invasion.
During World War II, he wit-
nessed the shelling of Hilo
Harbor by an enemy submarine
and the April 1, 1946, tsunami
that destroyed downtown Hilo
and killed 159.
Moving
to
