once again host its popular Story
Time at 7 p.m. at 278 Maple St.
The museum will welcome
author Verla Shirley-Chaddick, a
former North Fork Siuslaw resi-
dent.
Shirley-Chaddick will discuss
her recent book, “A Matter of
Honor,” a tale of lost romance
that blends the past and the pres-

War II veteran’s search for his
first love and his return to the
European continent to pay hom-
age to the fallen heroes of the lib-
eration of Europe.
This program will appeal to
romantics and historians alike.
Story Time at the Museum is
free and open to the public.
The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary
will host it’s next boating safety
class, “Suddenly in Command,”

Siuslaw office, 100 Harbor St., in
Old Town Florence.
“Suddenly in Command” is a
free, three-hour class offered to
assist boat occupants who are not
normally at the helm (including
spouses, children or others
aboard) who may find themselves
suddenly in command if the oper-
ator becomes ill, gets injured, falls
overboard or has to attend to
some other emergency and is
unable to operate the vessel.
Seating is limited for the class
and preregistration is required.
To register, contact Jonathan
Yoder, U.S. Coast Guard
Auxiliary, at 541-991-1181.
