ODOT warns drivers of night
work on Highways 101, 126
Oregon Department of
Transportation (ODOT) has
several roadwork projects
planned for the summer,
including night work on
Highway 126 and several
projects on Highway 101.
On Highway 126, ODOT
will pave approximately 7
miles between Torrence Road
and Cornerstone Drive, mile-
posts 40 to 47. The project is
scheduled to be completed by
the end of October.
Crews will replace and
adjust signs and guardrail,
replace bridge rail and place
new bridge membrane on the
highway just west of Veneta.
Bridge work began at the
start of the week and night
paving is expected to begin
Monday, July 25, with lane
closures Sunday through
Thursday nights, 7 p.m. to 7
a.m.
Drivers are asked to watch
for truck traffic, workers and
equipment entering and exit-
ing the work area.
On Highway 101, ODOT
will be sealing cracks from
Sutton Lake to 10th Street in
Florence, mileposts 184 to
190.
Work will be done Monday
through Thursday nights, 8
p.m. to 6 a.m., weather per-
mitting.
Travelers should expect
lane closures and minimal
delays. The project will take
six to eight nights to complete.
ODOT is continuing to
pave Highway 101 nights
from mileposts 191 to 198,
from the Siuslaw River Bridge
to the Douglas County line.
This project is scheduled to be
completed in September.
Motorists can expect up to
20 minute delays as poor
pavement is removed and the
highway repaved. Paving
will start at 6 p.m. Traffic will
be controlled by flaggers and
pilot car.
ODOT crews also are still
working on Siuslaw River
Bridge’s cathodic protection
project to repair and reinforce
concrete,
add
seismic
restrains and replace the
bridge railing.
Single lane closures will be
used for materials transfers,
bridge rail and other road-
work on the approaches to the
bridge. Delays may be up to
20 minutes but will normally
be 5 minutes or less. The job
will be completed in 2019.
ODOT crews plan to com-
plete mainline paving of
Highway 101 from Cooks
Chasm to Sutton Creek, mile-
posts 167 to 184, by mid-
week. Then the contractor
will complete work during the
day, including work on the
guardrail. The job is expected
to be completed by mid-
September.

LCC adopts comprehensive five-year strategic plan
A new five-year strategic
plan for Lane Community
College was adopted by a 7-0
vote at the July 13 Lane Board
of Education meeting.
The 2016-21 Strategic Plan
is the culmination of an 18-
month planning process that
gathered input from across the
college and the communities it
serves.
The plan presents a frame-
work for achieving objectives
that support the core themes of
responsive community engage-
ment, accessible and equitable
learning opportunities, quality
educational environment, and
individual student achieve-
ment.
The plan recognizes the
challenges of state disinvest-
ment, enrollment decline and
resource constraints, but input
clearly revealed that the com-
munity still depends on Lane
for a comprehensive training
and educational program.
Five strategic directions are
defined in the plan:
Commitment to student
learning and success
A culture of teaching,
learning and innovation
Access, equity and inclu-
sion through social justice
Strengthened community
Financial and environmen-
tal stewardship
Work now shifts to imple-
mentation planning. The plan is
available online at www.lanecc
.edu/research/planning/strate
gic-plan.
