Pinnock is a native Oregonian who, with her hus- band of 38 years, raised her family in Florence. She loves hiking and kayaking with her family and friends, which gives her that special connec- tion with the art she creates. Her artistic direction is paint- ing, photography, crafting or anything “artsy.” Her latest “steering” has been working with photos. This allows her the extra time she needs for volunteering. Pinnock has been involved Hot dogs and hamburgers hot-off-the-grill will be avail- able on Saturday, July 16, in the Grocery Outlet parking lot during the Power of Florence event. This event, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., raises money to help pro- vide care for the once-home- less cats and dogs awaiting a home at the Oregon Coast Humane Society (OCHS). This month’s event includes the “Stuff The Van” fundraiser to accept donations of pet food for families who cannot afford to feed their companion ani- mals. Inside Grocery Outlet, adoptable cats with OCHS vol- unteers will be the main attrac- tion. These volunteers also offer information about OCHS services. This is the program’s third growing season at the Siuslaw School Gardens. With the help of garden coordinator Lyza Houlihan, students have suc- cessfully harvested food from the gardens for students to eat in the cafeteria. Houlihan has also established a composting system, where food waste from the cafeteria is being used to create food for the plants. Kids involved with the Boys and Girls Club summer pro- gram and the summer school program have been caring for the garden this summer. During the school year, many of the classes are involved in planting, weeding, harvesting and composting. The garden provides students with the opportunity to develop a relationship with their food, from seed to table.
