‘L’Ocean de Fleurs’ solo exhibit opens in July

Studios, located on First Street in Old
Town Florence, is pleased to announce
an exciting new solo exhibit for local
artist Tamarah Phillips titled “L’Ocean
de Fleurs” (the ocean of flowers).
This show opens on the second
Saturday of the month, July 9. Phillips is
currently a resident artist at the gallery
and her previous group shows have
proven to be highly successful. Her
works can be found in private collec-
tions throughout the state, and she has
previously shown in various art galleries
throughout Florence.
Phillips is most noted for her contem-
porary portraiture, which integrates
Asiatic abstracts adorning delicate
female forms. This exhibit expands that
repertoire with over 20 new pieces por-
traying richly colored imagery highlight-
ing her personal interest in symbology
and mysticism.
In “L’Ocean de Fleurs,” Phillips inter-
twines portraiture with shifting visual
planes of starlit indigo skies and deep
sea green waters. Much of the exhibit
portrays underworld themes where jelly
fish and bouquets of lotus flowers co-
exist amidst treasures of the sea.
Phillips says, “This symbolism depicts
the symbiotic relationship of death and

Bay Area Band performs free concert
COOS BAY — The Bay Area Concert
Band will perform its annual outdoor
concert Saturday, July 16, at Mingus Park
in Coos Bay, located on North 10th
Street, as a preview performance to the
upcoming Oregon Coast Music Festival.
The Concert Band has been a part of
the festival since its inception in 1978, a
38-year dedication to the enjoyment of
music in the Bay Area. This year the con-
cert will predate the official beginning of
the festival but will still bring the joy of
listening to a full concert band in this
beautiful outdoor setting.
The concert will be held at noon under
the direction of conductor Steve
Simpkins. A nice variety of marches,
light classical and modern arrangements
will be heard.
Bring friends and families as well as a
picnic lunch and bask in the warmth of
the sun while listening to music.
This is a free concert with donations
appreciated.
Quality Crafters Guild presents annual sale
BANDON — The Quality Crafters
Guild will present its annual July 4 sale
from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Barn in
Bandon City Park.
Local artisans will be selling quilted
and knitted articles, seasonal decorations
and purses/totes and many collectible and
unique gifts.
Also for sale will be beautiful jewelry,
fleece items and myrtlewood bowls, cut-
ting boards, trays and other specialty
items.

William A. Selden of Coos Bay is the
featured maritime artist and his paintings
will be highlighted in the adjacent
Perkins Gallery during the exhibition.
He received formal art education at the
California Institute of Arts (Chouinard)
and the Art Center College of Design.
Selden is also a past winner of many
awards from Annual Maritime Art
Exhibitions. In 2011, he received “Best
of Show,” and in 2010, he received the
“People’s Choice Award.”
The museum will also host its annual
maritime fundraising dinner July 9
beginning at 5 p.m. This exciting event
features the popular silent art auction,
beer and wine sales and enjoyable cama-
raderie. The Coach House Restaurant of
Coos Bay will provide catering.

participating 22nd Annual Maritime Art
Exhibition artists and local artists. A spe-

1458 First St., in Old Town Florence.
This 2,200-square-foot gallery features
working art studios and revolving con-
temporary art exhibits throughout the

Dantone, will be featured August
through September.

Coos Art Museum has been a cultural
focal point of Oregon’s scenic southern
coast since 1966. It occupies an historic
1936 Art Deco U.S. Federal Building in
downtown Coos Bay.
The museum offers a wide range of
arts activities including exhibitions, art
classes and lectures. Hours are 10 a.m. to
4 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 1 to
4 p.m. on Saturday. Museum admission
is $5 general, $2 students, veterans and
seniors and free to museum members
and active-duty military through the
Blue Star Museum Program.
