Yachats Ladies unleash ‘Chasing Niagara’ to play at City Lights Cinemas
‘river of pie’ on Monday
is a real challenge.
First, the cutters arrive at
7:30 a.m. and start slicing pies
into six servings per pie. Then
slices are plated, labeled and
placed on holding tables.
Display tables are lined up
along the west wall of the
Ladies Club, creating nearly
40 linear feet with the width of
the table allowing 4 slices of
pie across.
This creates what visitors
say is a “river of pie.”

As they take on lightning
fast rapids and massive water-
falls in exotic locales, they
soon find that what started as
one man’s epic quest, evolves
into an intense three-year
journey of self-discovery and
friendship that forces them to
redefine their own definitions
of bravery, purpose and ambi-
tion.

foot waterfalls for the large
community of kayakers here
in Florence to traverse,” says

jaw-dropping moments to
enliven the spirits and
enthrall the imaginations of
even the most reluctant of
adventurers.”
The film won the “Best
Film” in the Mountain Sports
category at the prestigious
Banff Mountain Film and
Book Festival.
Sturges, who directed
the film as well as participat-
ed in the kayaking, says
“Ultimately, Chasing Niagara
was a major test on all levels.
It challenged me, as it
evolved into a creative burden
that troubled me for years.
All said and done, I’m glad
that I took the time and stuck
with it, because at times I
didn’t know if it would ever
come together. It was not
the film I set out to create,
|but in the end I hope it turned
out to be a human story
about adventure, passion,
responsibility and true friend-
ship.”
“Chasing Niagara” will
play twice on Tuesday, July 5,
at 12:30 and 6 p.m. Regular

Yachats Ladies Club’s 17th
annual Fourth of July Pie and
Ice Cream Social will be
Monday from 10:30 a.m. until
the pies are gone.
Yachats Ladies Club is wel-
coming the public to the
Yachats Ladies Clubhouse, at
286 W. Third St. at Pontiac
Street in Yachats.
For the 17th year, Yachats
Ladies Club members have
been hard at work baking lots
of different, delicious home-
made pies, bringing to mind
the old-fashioned pie and ice
cream socials of the past and
the wonderful feeling of com-
munity that this amazing annu-
al event creates.
Each serving is a sixth of a
pie and is just $4. Ice cream
can be added for $1. Huge
brownies will be also be
served for $3 each and coffee
will be available for $1. To go
boxes are available.
Pie lovers, this “slice of
Americana” is your event.
The wide variety of pies
available include many ver-
sions of apple, berry, peach
and cherry. There will be fruit
pies and cream pies from
which to choose.
There will only be a few of
the specialty pies including
raisin, pineapple, pecan, key
lime,
turtle,
chocolate,
coconut, sugar free and gluten
free, so come early for the best
selection.
