Rainbow trout stocking
is complete along the mid
coast. Holdover trout will
be available in most lakes
through the summer.
Fishing for the various
warm water fish species is
good this time of year as
fish move to the shallows
for spawning. There are
numerous lakes in the
Florence area that can pro-
vide good opportunity.

Spring Chinook angling
is improving as more fish
arrive. A few summer
steelhead are showing up,
too. Gear restrictions are in
effect in Three Rivers. On
Three Rivers, from the
hatchery deadline down-
stream to markers below
Gauldy Bridge, new
angling regulations allow
youth angling only (17 and
under) from June 1 to July
15. Check regulations.
Angling for cutthroat
should be fair to good in

No fireworks in Siuslaw National Forest, Oregon Dunes

As the Fourth of July holiday
approaches this weekend, Siuslaw
National Forest reminds the public that
all fireworks — sparklers included —
are prohibited within the Siuslaw
National Forest and dunes.
“Fireworks pose a serious fire
threat,” said Dan Eddy, fire manage-
ment officer for the Siuslaw National
Forest. “People often assume the
restrictions apply just to forested areas,
but they also include campgrounds and
sparsely vegetated areas such as the
Oregon Dunes and Sand Lake
Recreation Area.”
The Siuslaw National Forest man-
ages more than 630,000 acres of tem-
perate rainforests along the Oregon
Coast Range, from Tillamook to the end
of the Oregon Dunes National
Recreation Area in Coos Bay.
The penalty for possessing fireworks
can be as high as $5,000, imprisonment
for up to six months or both.
No other fire restrictions for the pub-
lic are in place, but visitors are asked to
be mindful of increasingly dry condi-
tions when visiting the coast and
national forest this summer.
Keep campfires small and in an
area cleared down to mineral soil.
Only burn materials that fit within
the campfire ring.
Watch out for overhanging

vegetation or limbs.
Extinguish all campfires before
leaving — even if gone for a short peri-
od of time.
Smoke inside vehicles or in areas
cleared at least 4 square feet wide.
To report the illegal use of fireworks
or unsafe fire use by the public, visitors
are asked to contact the Coastal Valley
Interagency Dispatch Center at 541-
750-7024 or by calling 911.
Information on the national forest is
available online at www.fs.usda.gov/

safety information can be found at

Happy Summer!
So glad it’s finally here so we can enjoy the wonderful warm and longer
days! I especially love all the fresh fruits and vegetables at this time of year
and just being able to enjoy the great outdoors. We’re lucky we live in such a
beautiful place with so many outdoor activities.
If you are thinking about selling your home, now is the time! So get out
the paint, spruce up the yard, clean the gutters and have a garage sale.
Come see me, I’d love to sell your home.
Have a safe
4th of July
Holiday!
