Class Act Theatre (CAT)
along
with
Florence
Repertory Theatre Company,
also known as Fatcat
Productions, announce open
auditions for two adult male
roles in the upcoming pro-
duction of “Sylvia,” written
by A.R. Gurney.
The male actors’ ages can
range from young adult to
retirement age.
Audition dates and times
for “Sylvia” are 7 p.m. on
Thursday, June 30, and
Friday, July 1. Auditions will
take place at CAT, 509
Kingwood St. in Florence, at
the corner of Kingwood
Street and Rhododendron
Drive.
A monologue is not neces-
sary, but those auditioning
are encouraged to borrow a
script from CAT by calling
541-997-4815 in order to be
prepared.
The stage age of one of the
males is anywhere from 20 to
50, but acting range is
required because this actor
plays three very different
characters, both male and
female.
The other male is a retire-
ment-age husband who loves
his wife, but believes she
can’t understand the relation-
ship between a man and his
dog.
“Sylvia” is a modern
romantic comedy about the
relationship of a man, his dog
and his marriage. The dog,
Sylvia, comes home with
Greg after he rescues her at a
park.
Greg’s marriage is put in
jeopardy after a series of
hilarious and touching com-
plications. This play is
“howlingly” funny.
“Sylvia” will be performed
the weekends of Sept. 23 to
25 and Sept. 30 through Oct.
2. Rehearsal begins in July.

6:30 p.m.
The
meeting
agenda
includes a presentation by
Dave Simon, U.S. Geological
Survey Research wildlife biol-
ogist, on the “Experimental
Removal of Barred Owls.”
Barred owls were discov-
ered in the Pacific Northwest
in the 1960s and are now
abundant in the region. Barred
owls are larger and more
aggressive and have taken
over much of the habitat of the
northern spotted owl. In 2015,
field operations for an experi-
mental barred owl removal
began, and Simon will sum-
marize the results.
Kim Nelson, a research
wildlife biologist at Oregon
State University, will present
on the effects of marbled mur-
relet predation by corvids —
crows, ravens and jays.
The SWC board of directors
and executive director will
give project updates and
announcements of upcoming
activities.
