Military Museum seeks
work party volunteers
Oregon Coast Military
Museum is holding a work
party Saturday, June 25,
from 1 to 3 p.m., to clean up
the grounds in anticipation
of its first anniversary on
July 2, during the Florence’s
annual Wings and Wheels
Fly-In and Car Show.

porters to join in with gloves

Go on the road with LCC’s
summer Outward Ventures
Lane Community College
Florence Center, 3149 Oak
St., is offering a few summer
road trips through its Outward
Ventures program.
The regional day trips start
Wednesday, June 22, with a
visit to Corvallis to learn
about the secret life of the
humble bee with a visit to
Oregon State University’s
Oak Creek Center for Urban
Horticulture.
After a crash course in bee
research and a honey tasting,
participants will head to
Nectar Creek to taste mead
produced with regional honey.
On Tuesday, June 28,
Outward Ventures will head to
Veneta for stops at two small
wineries,
Domaine
Meriwether and LaVelle
Vineyards, for tastings and a
picnic lunch.
For those who want to stick
close to the sand, Mike Bones
will take groups out clamming
to share his favorite spots to
dig for mud clams on Friday,
July 8, and Saturday, July 23.
The program will visit
Eugene to experience two
musicals: on Sunday, July 10,
for the Actors Cabaret for
brunch and a matinée produc-
tion of “The Little Mermaid”
and on Sunday, Aug. 7, to the
Shedd Institute for a matinée

of “On the Town.”
Early
registration
is
required to attend either musi-
cal.
LCC’s summer trips also
include a Wednesday, Aug. 3,
Salem visit that starts at the
Museum of Mental Health,
where “One Flew Over the
Cuckoo’s Nest” was filmed at
Oregon State Hospital.
The museum features
exhibits on the hospital’s his-
tory through the personal sto-
ries of its patients and
employees.
Outward Ventures will also
make a stop at the Capitol for
a guided tour before heading
back to Florence.
“We’re excited to offer our
students fun educational and
cultural experiences this sum-
mer that aren’t too far from
home,” said Marsha Sills,
LCC
Florence
Center
Continuing Education pro-
gram
coordinator.
“Registration has started for
the summer semester and we
encourage those interested in
any of these trips to register
early to secure their spot.”
