OBITUARIES
Upon completion of a mas-
ter’s degree from the Anderson
School at UCLA (University of
California Los Angeles), Ernie
spent his professional career as
a consultant to family-owned
businesses, while based in
Glendale, Calif.
Upon retirement, he and his
wife moved to Florence and
Ernie continued involvement in
his church and served as Senior
Warden and as a Eucharistic
Minister. Ernie also delivered
Meals on Wheels for several
years and served on hospice.
He enjoyed serving with
SEAcoast Entertainment and
was president of the board at the
time of his passing.
He was an incredible father to
his two sons and is survived by
Maggie, his wife of 28 years;
Adam Doud (Sylvia), Alan
Doud (Kristen), Kristin Klier
and Matthew Klier, as well as
five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be
held Saturday, June 25, at 11
a.m., at St. Andrew’s Episcopal
Church.

REYNOLDS—Richard S.
“Dick” Reynolds, 77, of
Florence,
passed away
on June 3,
2016.
Dick was
born in Sept-
ember 1938
and
was
proud to be
an Oregon-
Richard
ian his entire
Reynolds
life.
Dick was much loved by his
family and friends. He was truly
a kind and loving man with a
great sense of humor. His pas-
sion was for all sports, mainly
football. In his younger years,
he was an avid golfer and fly
fisherman. During his retire-
ment years, Dick discovered he
had the talented gift of painting
landscapes and portraits, which
he thoroughly enjoyed.

Celebration is right around
the corner, and chamber rep-
resentatives are working hard
to bring activities and fire-
works to the community that
Monday.
“We are in dire need of
volunteers the day of the
event to secure the Port of
Siuslaw area for the fire-
works,”
said
chamber
Executive Director Bettina
Hannigan.
In all, the chamber needs
14 volunteers at various
points of the day and evening
help make the event happen.
Hannigan said, “The port
has been very generous in
sharing its property for fire-
works launching. We the
Chamber and local commu-
nity need to provide security
to insure that the clearance
area around it is safe.”
The fireworks are spon-
sored by local businesses and
community members.

Dunes City
seeks council
nominees
DUNES CITY — The
elections officer of Dunes
City announced that there are
three city council positions
and the position of mayor
open for election bid by qual-
ified candidates.
Candidates for office in
Dunes City must be residents
of the city at the time of the
election.
Council seat positions are
for a term of four years, while
the mayor is elected for a
two-year term.
Dunes City election pack-
ets are available for pickup at
Dunes City Hall between 10
a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday
through Thursday.
Completed packets must
be returned to City Hall by
Aug. 30.

student must carry 12 or more
credit hours and achieve a 3.5
grade point average or higher
on the 4.0 scale.

DOUD—Ernest A. Doud, Jr.,
passed away peacefully in
Eugene,
Ore., on June
9,
2016,
from compli-
cations due
to
Acute
Leukemia.
He was
surrounded
by his loved Ernest Doud
ones.
Ernie was born in Highland
Park, Ill., in May 1942 to Dr.
Ernest A. Doud Sr. and
Catherine Doud, who moved
the family to San Diego, Calif.,
when Ernie was about 5 years
old.
He graduated from Hoover
High School and went directly
to Claremont Men’s College,
where he obtained a bachelor’s
degree in business economics.
While in college, he served in
the Army ROTC and went on
active duty as a lieutenant fol-
lowing graduation. He later
served two terms as president of
the CMC Alumni Association.
