According to Siuslaw
senior class counselor
Steven Moser, this is the
first year that at least one
student from grades nine
through 12 was awarded a
scholarship.
Moser said this year’s
total scholarships awarded
was almost $25,000 more
than last year.
Siuslaw had three
Valedictorians for 2016,
Mikaela Siegel, Hannah
Bartlett and Holly Hicks,
who was also the Richard
N. Whitmore Outstanding
Girl.
Dylan Jennings was
voted the Richard N.
Whitmore Outstanding
Boy.
During the Mapleton cer-
emony, eight entities and
individuals gave $10,150 in
scholarships to four sen-
iors. Hannah Rodet
received seven scholarships
totaling $9,250. Rosie
Golden, Chet Geddes and
Trevver D’Auteuil received
$300 each from the
Sundstrom family Rock
Creek Award.
During the ceremony,
Mapleton graduating sen-
iors sat on four rustic
wooden benches, their sen-
ior gift to the school.
Hannah Rodet gave the
Valedictorian address and
Chet Geddes gave the
Salutatorian address.

Ninety-one students from Mapleton and
Siuslaw High Schools graduated this week-
end, many with honors. Siuslaw held its
graduation ceremony on June 10, honoring
82 students and three Valedictorians. Nine
Mapleton graduates walked on June 11 after
being addressed by the class Valedictorian
and Salutatorian.
