grandmother’s 100-year-old

This is followed by an

The day of the event, par-
ticipants will meet on the
north side of Fred Meyer’s
(near the recycling area).
Those who have not already
arranged to carpool are paired
up with drivers who have
space.
The group will leave by
9:15 a.m. and arrive at Thyme
Garden about 11 a.m.

SOS helps SHS seniors prepare for life on their own

(SOS) Housing Assistance
Manager Bob Teter in May
taught a session on life after
graduation to Siuslaw High
School seniors in Sean
O’Mara’s economics class.
The session gave students
tools to help them have a suc-
cessful rental experience.
The class covered such things
as how to budget for rentals,
search for the rental that best
fits their situation, screening
potential landlords as well as
understanding the compo-
nents and types of rental con-
tracts there are.
Teter addressed the impor-
tance of documenting and
keep up good relations with
landlords. He also talked to
students about possible issues
that come with having room-
mates, as well as subletting
and how to prepare and pro-
tect themselves both finan-
cially and legally.
This was the first year SOS
hosted this session for
wear a white T-shirt for auto-
graphs. There will be inflata-
bles, games, karaoke, dancing,
a photo booth, pizza, food,
prizes and fun.
There is no charge to attend
and all eighth-graders are

On Thursday, July 21, Herb
Enthusiasts will take its 12th
annual field trip to Thyme
Garden in Alsea. For this
event, there is a maximum
attendance of 25. Those who
haven’t signed up yet need to
do so by the June 16 meeting
or by email.
The tour and luncheon nor-
mally last about three hours.
The cost is $30 per person and
includes gratuity. Payment
reserves a place for the event
and only 12 spots remain.
While strolling through the
display gardens, a guide
describes the herbs’ folklore
and medicinal uses, as well as
their culinary uses, which par-
ticipants can enjoy while din-
ing al fresco.
A

luncheon

salad
artfully
adorned with edible flowers
and herbs, along with herbal
teas and lavender lemonade.
This is accompanied by three
choices of homemade herbal
breads and an array of herb
butters and spreads.
