‘Abbey Road’ Beatles tribute concert comes to FEC
FLORENCE — US News and
World Report has called Beatles
tribute band Abbey Road LIVE!
“One of the world’s premier
Beatles cover bands.”
Since 2002, Abbey Road
LIVE! has been rocking the
music of The Beatles. Initially a
tribute to the monumental
“Abbey Road” album, the
Athens, Ga., band has expanded
its repertoire to include more
than 150 Beatles tunes, from all
eras of the Fab Four’s career.
Abbey Road LIVE!, which is
coming to the Florence Events
Center on Saturday, July 9, at
7:30 p.m., is not your typical
Beatles tribute act; don’t expect
mop-top haircuts and fake
British accents.
Rather, an Abbey Road LIVE!
concert is about bringing to life
Beatles tunes in a raw and spirit-
ed fashion, while remaining true
to the original recordings.
Combining attention to detail
with a creative exuberance, the
band always delights its audi-
ences with its diverse repertoire
of well known hits and more
obscure favorites.

T HIRD ANNUAL F LORENCE B ARK FOR L IFE EVENT SET FOR J UNE 11
FLORENCE — Bark for Life of
Florence has started preparations for its
third annual event at Miller Park on
Saturday, June 11, from 10:30 a.m. to 2
p.m. Registration starts at 10 a.m.
The bark committee has been busy
adding new events to make the day full
of fun and games and contests.
Bark for Life of Florence kicked off its
third year with a campaign through
booster.com selling its purple tie-dyed T-
shirts, which supporters are wearing
around town now.
Once again, Bark for Life will be par-
ticipating in the Rhody Parade on May
22, when float marshals Angie and Mike
Bartlett — and canine ambassador
Afghans Audi and Wilson Barrett —
will be riding on the Hawaiian-themed
“Catch the Wave” float.
Loyal owners and dogs will walk next
to the float to show their support for the
main event June 11 at Miller Park.
Friends and their canine family members
are encouraged to participate. Join or
leave the parade anywhere along the
route. Local DJ, “magic man” Al Rojas,
will rock the bystanders with great dance
and shout music.
This year, many new Bark for Life
events have been added for dogs and
their “uprights,” including games, con-
tests and barnyard agility. Surf City dog
trainer Dina Pavlis and her great team
have added some simple dog trick intro-
ductions and a special demonstration in
nose work, which teaches dogs to recog-
nize certain scents.
There will be other demonstrations,
interesting acts on stage and a fundrais-
ing silent auction as well.
Contests will include best dog/owner
look-a-likes, best costume, best trick and
more. All are welcome to come and join
the events for a few hours of fun with
their beloved canine member.
Register online at www.florence
bark.org or at Miller Park on Saturday,
June 11, at 10:30 a.m.
All registered participants will receive
a bag with a purple bark for life bandan-
na, a poop bag, a “pawsport” and a few
doggie treats for the instruction classes.
Anyone interested in starting a Bark
for Life team can visit www.florence
bark.org and follow the instructions.
