Coast Guard rescues fishing vessel — twice
The U.S. Coast Guard
Station Siuslaw River came to
the rescue of the 52-foot fish-
ing vessel Takako Thursday
afternoon for the second time
in 48 hours.
In the early hours of
Wednesday morning, May 25,
the first call for assistance
was received from the dis-
abled commercial fishing ves-
sel. The 47-foot Motor Life
Boat (MLB) went to the aid of
the Takako, but was unable to
tow it in due to low tide on
the Siuslaw River.

restricted in the areas sur-
rounding the exercise. Areas
of restriction include Oak
Street from 20th to 27th
streets and on 27th Street
from Oak to Kingwood
streets. Florence Public
Works staff will be on scene
to direct traffic.
Prior to the exercise, the
Florence Police Department
will issue a community alert
to the surrounding area as a
reminder that the exercise
will be taking place. Alerts
will automatically reach land-
lines in the designated area.

Normal
emergency
response operations and hos-
pital operations will not be
affected by the drill.
The exercise will be prima-
rily centered at Siuslaw
Middle School, but will also
include Siuslaw Elementary
School and Siuslaw High
School. This multi-agency
exercise will test the pre-
paredness, coordination, and
response of local agencies
should a real disaster occur.
