The Sailors track and field
team competed in a field of 13
teams ranging from 1A to 4A
during last Friday’s Toledo
Twilight Invitational.
Mapleton junior Hunter
Simington provided the day’s

top mark after winning the pole
vault with a leap of 12 feet,
which was a 1-foot personal
record.
Simington was also sixth in
the 200 meters with a time of
24.51, and ran a leg on the
fourth-place 4x100-meter relay
team (48.59) with AJ Foster,
Tyler Packebush and Evan
Maso.
In the javelin, sophomore
Tanner Wilson threw for fifth at
147 feet, 1 inch. Packebush, a
junior, was ninth in the 110-
meter hurdles (18.81) and
sophomore Cole Spencer was
seventh in the 800 meters
(2:17.12).
For the girls, senior Hannah
Rodet had the team’s top finish
with fourth place in the triple
jump at 25 feet, 5 inches.
She was also 12th in the 100-
meter hurdles (22.08).
Junior Josi Hays and fresh-
man Alyssa Richards each had
fifth-place marks, beginning
with Hays in the discus at 88
feet, 4 inches. Hays was also
seventh in the shot put (28 feet,
7.75 inches.
Richards landed fifth in the
javelin at 88 feet, 11 inches,
and was 11th in the 3,000
meters at 16:55.09.
Freshman Haley Wells, com-
peting in the shot put, was 10th
with a throw of 72 feet, 11
inches.
Friday, the Sailors will com-
pete at the Mountain West
League district meet at
McKenzie High School.
State competition is May 19
and 20, at Hayward Field in
Eugene.
Boating? Make sure you have correct documentation
required to register and display
a current validation sticker on
both sides of the aftermost part
of the hull in the upper, square
foot, below the deck line.
All other recreational boats
moored in Oregon are required
to have current validation stick-
er.
The certificate of number,
commonly called the “registra-
tion card,” is a pocket-sized
card that must be on board and
available for inspection by an
enforcement officer whenever
the boat is being operated.
The registration number is
specific to the boat and is
issued with the title and regis-
tration. The registration num-
ber (OR#) and validation stick-
er (decal) must be displayed on
the starboard and port side bow
of the boat.
Once a number is issued, it
can be painted, applied as a
decal sticker, or otherwise
affixed to the bow and placed
above the water line so it can be
read easily.
Numbers are read from left
to right on both sides of the
bow and must be in 3-inch high
block letters (not slanted) and
separated by at least 2 inches.
Letters must be in a contrast-
ing color to the boat’s hull color
or striping.
The validation sticker (decal
-good for two calendar years)
must be affixed on each side of
the boat and placed in line. The
sticker on the port side is after
the OR number and on the star-
board side, before the OR num-
ber (see illustration).
The decal expires on Dec. 31
of the year indicated on the
sticker.
The certificate of title, cer-
tificate of number and valida-
tion stickers (decals) can be
obtained by completing an
application and submitting the
proper fee with documentation
to the Oregon State Marine
Board.
Many boat dealers will sub-
mit the documents on your
behalf for an agent fee.
Obtaining a title and certifi-
cate of number can take any-
where from a month to four
months, depending on the boat
dealer or other documents that
may be needed to complete the
transaction.
Failure to have a certificate
of registration for documented
vessels is a B violation and a
$260 fine. Failure for a boat
operator to carry a certificate of
number is a D violation and a
$$110 fine.
Boaters can also be cited
with failure to obtain a title, a D
violation with $110 fine.

Siuslaw Watershed Council to offer summer camps again
The Siuslaw Watershed
Council has announced it will
again offer summer camps for
students entering fourth grade
through high school. These
camps are the perfect way to
get the most out of summer.
Come be a part of exploring
the Siuslaw watershed’s many
rivers, streams and lakes.
Camp dates are:
Introductory Camp: June
27-30, for students entering
grades 4-6
Intermediate Camp: July
11-14, for students entering
grades 6-8
Advanced Camp: July 18-
22, for students entering grades
8-12 with previous watershed
experience
During the camps, attendees
travel throughout the Siuslaw
watershed learning about
plants, animals, water and land.
The camps focus on the
restoration work that is being
done to keep the watershed
healthy. Campers will get a
chance to make a difference by
doing hands-on restoration
work, as well as canoeing,
kayaking, snorkelling, hiking
and more.
Introductory and intermedi-
ate camps are day camps.
Advanced camp includes
one overnight camping trip.
Each camp is $75 for the
whole session and scholarships
are available.

The Viking Junior captured
the Siuslaw school record of
2:17.71 to capture 2nd place
at the 35-team Wally
Ciochetti Invitational in
Cottage Grove. Tatum also
ran a leg in the 4x400 relay
team that finished second in
4:09.03, the fourth fastest
time in school history.

Honorable mention is given to
thrower Carissa Oliver who
moved up to number four on
the all time Siuslaw list in the
discus, and number five in
the shotput
