Rainbow trout stocking
is underway in many loca-
tions along the mid coast.
Look at the stocking report
to see the full stocking sea-
son.
Fishing for the various
warm water fish species
tends to be slower during
the winter month but can
pick up quickly as spring
nears and fish move to the
shallows for spawning.
There are numerous lakes
in the Florence area that
can provide good opportu-
nity and have both boat
and bank access.

This past Saturday, Dunes City hosted the fourth annual Oregon Dunes Triathlon and Duathlon for what was the
event’s largest field of competitors to date. Starting with little more than 50 athletes in 2012, this year’s event
had more than 300 participants competing in categories from individual Olympic sprints to team relays, with ages
ranging from 14 years old to senior citizens. (See more photos on page 4C.)

Cottage Grove on Friday with her
time of 2:17.71.
Siuslaw News
The Vikings wrapped up the pre-dis-
trict season with record-breaking per-
formances during last Friday’s Wally
Ciochetti Invitational in Cottage Grove,
where the girls team won the team title
after a series of personal records and a
new school record.
Siuslaw juniors Carissa Oliver and
Destinie Tatum each had standout days,
with Tatum running the 800-meter
event in 2:17.71, setting a new Siuslaw
record by more than 1 second; the pre-
vious record, set by Raelyn Robinson in
2009, was 2:18.23.
Tatum placed second in the event
overall.
