Ladies of Elks send hundreds of cookies to troops
The Ladies of Elks’ Touch
of Home Committee of the
Florence Lodge #1858 sent 13
boxes, equalling 514 dozen
cookies,
to
troops
in
Afghanistan in April.
Of those, 105 dozen were
made by LOE member Shirley
Stapleton.
They also packaged up
snack size baggies of trail mix,
nuts, licorice and other con-
sumables that can be tucked
into the pockets of the sol-
dier’s cargo pants so they can
have nutritional snacks while
out on patrol.
It is costly to send these
packages, and the LOE
acknowledged the following
people who shared in that
expense: Florence veterans
group known as the Band of
Brothers; Elk members Bill
and Karen Smales; and LEO
member Mary Simpson, and
her husband, past Exalted
Ruler Dennis Simpson.
