choreo- grapher Marge
Champion remains a
living legend from Hol-
lywood’s Golden Age
of stage, screen, televi-
sion and Disney Ani-
mation. She is probably
best known as one-half
of the renowned “Marge
and Gower Champion”
husband-wife dance team
that lit up the screen in
seven classic musical
i lms, as well as on TV
and Broadway. h ey went
on to become the screen’s
most appealing dance
team since Astaire and
Rogers.
Marge made her i lm
debut in 1939’s “h e Story
of Vernon and Irene Cas-
tle,” although it was Gin-
ger Rogers who actually
danced with Fred Astaire.
Among the many projects
she choreographed was
“Queen of the Stardust
Ballroom,” which won
her an Emmy(r) in 1975.
In addition to “Snow
White,” she modeled for
the Blue Fairy in “Pinoc-
chio,” Hyacinth Hippo in
the ‘Dance of the Hours’
segment of “Fantasia” and
Mr. Stork in “Dumbo.”
She remembers her
Disney days with fond-
ness. “h e atmosphere
was like a giant high
school or college, as far
as I was concerned. Mr.
Disney, for me, was like
a very friendly head prin-
cipal. Of course, that’s
a 14-year-old’s point of
view. I later learned that
he was probably one of
the most important men
in Hollywood, certainly
in animation, and prob-
ably in the movie indus-
try.”
Marge is a Trustee
Emeritus of the William-
stown (Mass.) h eatre
Festival (near her home
in Stockbridge), has
taught master classes at
the Jacob’s Pillow Dance
Festival, and was a mem-
ber of the Advisory Board
of the Berkshire h eatre
Festival. In 1997, Massa-
chusetts honored Marge
with its Commonwealth
Award, citing her “lead-
ership as a true patron of
the arts.”
Finally, Ms. Cham-
pion has the unique dis-
tinction of sharing a star
on Hollywood Boule-
vard Walk of Fame with
this favorite character
she played. Both she and
Snow White each have
their own!

NOTICE OF BUDGET COMMITTEE MEETINGS
A public meeting of the Budget Committee of the City of
Dunes City, Lane County, State of Oregon, to discuss the
budget for fiscal year 2016-2017 (July 1, 2016 - June 30, 2017),
will be held at Dunes City Hall, 82877 Spruce St., Dunes City,
Oregon, in the Westlake area. The first meeting will take place
on the 19th day of April 2016, at 4:00 p.m. The purpose of the
meeting is to receive the budget message and to receive
comment from the public on the budget. A copy of the
budget document may be inspected or obtained on or after
April 19th, 2016, at Dunes City Hall, Monday through Thurs-
day, between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. If a second
meeting is required, it will be held the following Tuesday, April
26th, at 4:00 p.m. If a third meeting is required, it will be held
the following Tuesday, May 3rd, at 4:00 p.m. If not approved
at an earlier meeting, the final meeting of the Budget Com-
mittee to approve the budget will be Tuesday, May 10, 2016
at 4:00 p.m. These are public meetings where deliberation
by the Budget Committee will take place. Any person may ap-
pear at the meeting(s) and discuss the proposed programs
with the Budget Committee. Notice of the Budget Committee
meeting is also posted at the City web site,
