Hays also placed sixth in the shot put (29 feet, 2 inches), fol- lowed by Michael in ninth (26 feet, 7 inches). She also landed seventh in the long jump at 9 feet, 5 inches. Sophomore runner Clarissa Triebskorn and freshman Alyssa Richards each more than one top- 10 finish. In the 300-meter hurdles, Triebskorn placed third with a time of 1:01.87. In the long jump, Triebskorn was fifth with a mark of 10 feet, 7.25 inches, then placed sixth in the 400 meters in 1:17.19. Richards, meanwhile, was fifth in the 1,500-meter race (7:16.88) and 10th in the javelin (78 feet, 9 inches). For the boys, juniors AJ Foster and Hunter Simington teamed up with sophomore Tanner Wilson and freshman Evan Moso to nab the meet’s top 4x100-meter finish with a time of 47.93 to beat out North Bend by nearly a full two seconds. Foster went on to place third in the 100 meters (12.40). Simington was two-tenths of a second behind Marshfield senior Rylee Trendell in the 200 meters to finish second in 24.54. The Sailors also got scoring from sophomores Cole Spencer and Dominic Wells, who finished eighth and ninth, respectively, in the 800 meters with times of 2:34.90 and 2:36.49. Spencer also cleared 5 feet, 2 inches to tie for third in the high jump, with Wells placing fifth at 5 feet. In the 110-meter hurdles, jun- ior Tyler Packebush claimed third place with a time of 19.14. Packebush also cleared 8 feet to place fifth in the pole vault. Friday, the Sailors were at McKenzie High School in Blue River for the Aaron and Marie Jones Invitational. Thursday, Mapleton will be at Taft High School in Lincoln City. A salmon season from May 1, 2016 through April 30, 2017 is currently being developed. Fishing for bottom fish is closed outside of a line approximating the 30-fathom curve. The marine fish daily bag limit is seven fish and a sepa- rate daily limit for lingcod (two). Anglers can only keep 3 blue rockfish and 1 canary rockfish as part of their daily limit and there will be no har- vest of China, quillback, or copper rockfish. SILETZ RIVER: Steelhead Winter steelhead fishing is slow. This time of year is typi- cally dominated by mostly wild fish. Side drifting, bounc- ing bottom or bobber fishing can be productive. WILSON RIVER: Steelhead, Chinook Steelhead angling has slowed in the low clear water. Scale your gear down and choose techniques that fit low water. Bobber and jigs should be an effective technique. Spring Chinook opened April 1, but fishing is generally very slow until later in the season. YAQUINA RIVER: Steelhead The river basin is closed to all fishing above the head of tide and will reopen for cut- COOS COUNTY LAKES and PONDS: Trout Trophy trout were stocked last week into Empire Lakes, Bradley Lake, and Johnson Mill Pond. Legal size trout are also stocked into Empire Lakes, Bradley Lake, Butterfield Lake, Eel Lake, Powers Pond, and Johnson Mill Pond. Fishing in the area lakes for trout has been ok with anglers having the best success using small spinners, spoons, or Powerbait. The daily trout bag limit in these lakes is five trout per day with only one trout over 20 inches. TENMILE BASIN: Trout, steelhead, bass Streams in the Tenmile Basin are now closed for trout fishing until May 22. Tenmile Lakes is open all year for trout but trout fishing has been slow.
