The Florence Garden Club, originally established in Florence 66 years
ago for the purpose of improving our community and furthering knowl-
edge of horticulture, is pleased to announce its Annual Plant Sale
Fundraiser. The Garden Club currently has nearly 100 active and en-
thusiastic members.
For many years the Club has been providing local scholarships and
working on various projects to help beautify Florence. Since 1994 the
Club has awarded $47,350 in scholarships to deserving local students.
Last yearʼs winner was Cody Burkhart ($1,000). One ongoing civic
beautification project has involved the landscaping and maintenance of
the areas along the perimeter of Gallagherʼs Park at the Highway 126
& Spruce Street entrance to Florence. Members have also been privi-
leged to serve as hostesses during the Florence Home & Garden Shos-
ince it was started 20 years ago.
In order to provide funds for these endeavors, the club will hold its
only fundraiser – the Annual Plant Sale and Raffle Drawing – on Satur-
day, May 7th at The Disabled American Veterans Hall, 1715 W. 21st St.
(across 101 from McDonaldʼs), from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A wide variety of
perennials, annuals, houseplants, trees, herbs and groundcovers will
be available. Be sure to come early for best selections. In addition to
the sale, over 50 raffle prizes will be awarded. Generous merchants in
Florence have donated the prizes. Raffle tickets were available at the
Home & Garden Show and will be sold at the door of the Plant Sale.
There is no need to be present to win.
