It may not have been the final score
the Vikings were looking for in their
home opener last Tuesday, with the
Falcons edging them out 10-6, but fans
and players alike left Dodson Field feel-
ing good about the team’s overall per-
formance.
“We never quit and kept a winning
attitude,” said Viking head coach Tony
Castro.
Although the Vikings found them-
selves trailing 6-1 heading into the bot-
tom of the third inning, they managed to
battle back to within one run in the bot-
tom of the sixth inning with rally hitting
from Scott Gordon, Darren Stinnett,
Jared Brandt and Kenneth Thrall;
Gordon, Thrall and Stinnett accounted
for five of the Viks’ six runs in the game.
Evan Teeter provided the team’s final
run during the Viks’ 3-run rally.
Brandt, who batted in the cleanup slot
for Siuslaw, lead the day with 2 hits and
2 RBIs.
In the top of the seventh, Elmira,
which won five of its last six games
heading into Tuesday’s matchup, drove
home three more runs to leave Siuslaw
trailing by 4 heading into the bottom of
the inning. The Viks’ rally ended there as
the Falcons held on for the win, 10-6.

That, and shifting Claire Waggoner
to the leadoff spot could be the explo-
sive combination Siuslaw has been
looking for.
Waggoner was 4-for-5 with 4 runs
scored and 2 RBIs on Thursday. With
Anna Stonelake batting second, fol-
lowed by Dotson in the cleanup posi-
tion, Siuslaw’s offense was nonstop

Sailor tracksters nab five wins at MWL meet

the javelin and shot put Thursday.

In their second home meet of the
season, the Sailors nabbed five indi-
vidual wins and a team win in the
4x100-meter relay during Thursday’s
five-team Mountain West League
meet.
For the girls, Alyssa Richards won
the 1,500-meter race in 7:54. Richards
was also third in the javelin (73-07),
second in the high jump (4-0) and
ninth in the long jump (9-06).
Clarissa Triebskorn began her day

winning the 300-meter hurdles in
1:03, then went on to place second in
the 400 meters (1:14.96) and seventh
in the long jump (11-05).
However, Josi Hays had the biggest
day for the girls team, winning the dis-
cus with a throw of 92-02 and placing
second in both the javelin (80-08)
