play “Quilters,” a two-
act musical drama
written by Molly
Newman and Barbara
Damashek, will be
held Saturday, April
2, from 10 a.m. to 2
p.m. The show is
being produced by
Last Resort Players.
Auditions will be
held at the Florence
United
Methodist
Church, Second and
Kingwood streets.
The play requires
seven women of a
variety of ages from
age 20 and older. The
setting is the American
West as a pioneer
woman and her six
daughters face frontier
life.
Each actor will have

scholarship awards from
$1,000 to $3,000. The dead-
line for applications is April
15.

Beginning at 2 p.m.
on Sunday, May 1, the
Community
Chorus
of
Florence will be presenting its
spring concert in shades of
red, white and blue.
Directed by Jennifer Meier,
the chorus will bring to the
audience a selection of inspir-
ing patriotic songs such as
“God Bless America,” “Battle
Hymn of the Republic” and
“America the Beautiful.”
The concert will begin with
a rendition of “The Star
Bangled Banner.”
Special guests The Flotones
will provide several selec-
tions, along with the Encore
Dancers tapping to “Yankee
Doodle Dandy.”
The Siuslaw High School
Chamber Choir will perform
several songs and the CROW
kids will perform some tunes
from their production of
“Shrek the Musical, Jr.”
Interspersed with these
songs will be a medley of
tunes by Irving Berlin, who
wrote many Broadway musi-
cal and Hollywood songs dur-
ing his 60-years of productivi-
ty.
Adult tickets are $10 and
children under 18 will be
admitted free.

the Real Food Co-op collect-
ing anything that plugs in or
runs on batteries. This
includes cell phones, comput-
ers, stereos, DVD players,
cords, cables, TV and vaccu-
ums.
NextStep is a nonprofit
organization whose mission is
to provide technology and
training to children and adults
who have barriers to employ-
ment and education, while
protecting our environment
and community from haz-
ardous waste.
NextStep provides individu-
als and groups the opportunity
to learn about the impact elec-
tronic waste has on our envi-
ronment.
Joining NextStep at the col-
lection point will be ARC of
Lane
County
collecting
unwanted clothing.
The ARC’s mission is to
advocate to enhance the digni-
ty, expand the opportunities
and protect the rights of per-
sons with intellectual and
developmental disabilities and
their families. They provide a
variety of educational and
support opportunities for our
families in Lane County.
