March 19, when the Florence
Events Center, 715 Quince
St., will be alive with the
happy squeal of cavies and
their enthusiasts during the
Oregon Cavy Breeders
Society’s winter Cavy Show.
Local owners and breeders
will be bringing their
favorite cavies to be judged
and assessed for their quali-
ty. Top winners will be
awarded prizes.
In addition there will be
a youth cavy show open to
the public.
“Our youth have some
beautiful
examples
of
cavies,”
said
Manetta
Deggleman, organizer of last
August’s summer show
at the FEC. “Everyone is
invited to see why we love
our animals, and why we
have so much fun.”

breeds of Guinea pig, only a
few breeds are commonly
found off the show table as
pets.
The short-hair, Abyss-
inian, Peruvian and Sheltie
(also known as Silkie)
breeds are those most fre-
quently seen as pets.
“We welcome questions
about our little friends at this
show or any of our many
shows around the state,” said
Deggleman.
The event will take place
from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Community job fair offers 50 area jobs
Three Rivers Casino Resort
will host a community job fair
on Thursday, March 24, from
10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., in the
Casino’s Event Center, 5647
Highway 126.
The event will offer more
than 50 available positions
within the local community.
Attendance is free and all
ages are welcome.
“We are happy to host the
community job fair in our
Event Center,” said Mike
Rose, COO at Three Rivers
Casino Resort. “The event will
provide ample opportunities
for job seekers in Florence.”
The event will offer valuable
employment
opportunities
from various businesses in the
community. Participants will
have the ability to connect with
local employers and find
resources for a great career.
The job fair will feature on-
hand assistance to job seekers
provided by Worksource Lane
Employment Department.
In addition to job recruit-
ment, the event will feature
volunteer opportunities.
“Lane Community College
at Florence is excited to be par-
ticipating in this event that
focuses on local career oppor-
tunities and businesses. We
strive to provide members of
our rural community a path to
finding a new career or to
enhance existing skills to move
into the workforce,” said Beth
Habian, administrative coordi-
nator at Lane Community
College. “Whether you’re
interested in earning an associ-
ate degree, a certificate or
planning to transfer to a uni-
versity, check out what LCC
Florence has to offer.”
Approximately 24 business
and community partners will
be represented at the job fair.
There will be several job
categories available, including
healthcare, grocery stores,
restaurants, resorts, youth
opportunities, state and federal
employment and education.

Siuslaw News and Driftwood
Shores are among the employ-
ers.

PeaceHealth Peace Harbor
Medical Center is is a com-
munity hospital built with
local leadership and commu-
nity financial support.
That means Florence resi-
dents have an opportunity to
participate in the hospital’s
ongoing policies, procedures
and practices to insure it
operates at the highest possi-
ble level in patient and fami-
ly care.
That can only be done with
dedicated persons willing to
give time and energy to serve
on Peace Harbor’s Patient
and Family Advisory Council
(PFAC), working with other
community members as well
as hospital staff.
This collaborative effort
provides the means to moni-
tor the care received in the
hospital setting and take
steps for improvement where
it may fall short.
PFAC will work best with
advisors of all ages from 18
and older being represented.
This is critical to the success
of the PFAC since health care
needs and experiences vary
from age to age, and no one
understands and can speak to
that better than individuals of
each age group.
Interested
community
members are encouraged to
be a part of the PFAC. Being
on the committee requires
monthly meetings except for
July and December, and ded-
ication.
Co-chairs of the PFAC,
Janis Finley and Bob Horney,
have scheduled an informa-
tional meeting for anyone
interested in being part of
this Patient and Family
Advisory Council.

Thursday, March 10, in
Conference Room C at
PeaceHealth Peace Harbor
Medical Center, 400 Ninth
St., from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Adaptation of ‘Anne Frank’ opens in April

powerful, intimate adaptation
of “The Diary of Anne
Frank,” the audience finds
itself going back in time to
enter an era when human
morale is shattered by horrific
changes.
But somewhere in a small
annex, a little girl finds the
courage to survive. During
two years of hiding, Anne
Frank records daily activities
and conversations with wit
and astonishing honesty.
We learn through a mature
13-year-old girl that the
human heart truly can defeat
the fear of death.
In this drama presented by
the Last Resort Players, audi-
ences will be invited to wit-
ness what life may have been
like for the Frank family.
Living a claustrophobic
existence together, eight peo-
ple try to contain their fear of
what is to come, grief for
what was lost and hope for a
peace where they can go back
to their ordinary lives.
History plays out before
audience members in this
adaptation that is for those
who know the story well, and
for a new generation that has
yet to understand the gift that
Anne Frank gave to the world
through her diary:

disappears, my spirits are
revived! But, and that’s a big
question, will I ever be able to
write something great, will I
ever become a journalist or a
