Retta was in the eighth grade
when her family moved to the
Florence area on Woahink Lake,
where she later attended Siuslaw
High School.
She married Darrell W. Mead
of Mapleton at Quonset Point,
R.I., on Feb. 13, 1950.
They returned to and made a
home in Dunes City after his dis-
charge from the U.S. Navy.
Retta was passionate about her
family, animals and flowers. She
enjoyed these alongside her com-
munity as a member of the
Florence Christian Church, where
for many years she supplied floral
arrangements for weekly servic-
es.
She was a member and also
served as president of the

the
early
1950s and
married Bob
Barrett, who

Shirley Barrett in death.

vived by her sons: Mike and his
wife Debbie; Kurt and his wife
Michelle; Bob and his wife
Ronda; and daughter Cheryl
Hoile and her husband Terry; 12
grandchildren and 11 great-
grandchildren.
Shirley devoted her life to car-
ing for her husband and raising
her children, the loves of her life.
She loved spending time with
family and friends, always had a
smile and visited with everyone.
Her second love was sweets.
At meal time, desert was her first
priority and was always encour-
aged, especially if it was white
cake with white icing.
Until recent years, prior to her
declining health, Shirley enjoyed
traveling — and recalled her road
trip to Vegas with her daughter,
Cheryl, and granddaughter,
Angella, as one of her “best ever.”
Shirley’s wonderful smile and

and she will always be in our
hearts.
