6 A SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ WEDNESDAY, MARCH 2, 2016 H&G Show from 1A “Vendors told me how well they did with their products — which aren’t available out- side of shows like this — after the first show,” Thompson said. “That was an endorsement of our show, the people in the community and the buying power of our retirement community.” For Walter-Sedlacek, the annual show is a chance to connect with the community. “It’s always a wonderful show, and different from oth- ers I’ve attended. We have a true hometown feel,” she said. Thompson agreed that the Florence show is “unique.” “We’re a small market, and Florence is kind of unique in its success at 20 years. Home shows aren’t doing well in some of the bigger markets. It’s a big deal,” he said. “It’s about the community and how the people interact, how they respond and how friendly they are.” He added that the vendors, space and attendees all fit together in a way that makes the community work. “Jon does a really good job of managing it all,” Walter- Sedlacek said. “He always Police from 1A Morgan started as a Florence Police Department reserve officer in 1998 and joined the department as an officer on June 25, 2001. Florence City Council voted to promote him to the level of sergeant in October 2014. He was fired from the depart- ment after an internal investi- gation in October 2015. At that time, Morgan wrote a letter to the editor in the Siuslaw News and said, “I want to say it has been in my honor to protect and serve the Florence community for the better part of 17 years.” finds a diverse assortment of vendors, products and servic- es. It’s a good balance.” As for this year, Thompson said the show will have “one of our most unique mixes and best variety” of products and services, indoor and outside. This year Laurel Bay Gardens will again have the centerpiece of the show: a French garden market that will showcase garden supplies and decorations. “It will be a great chance to educate the community about trends in gardening and home decor,” Walter-Sedlacek said. It also allows the garden center to show its new pottery venue and products. David Sedlacek will set up Laurel Bay Gardens’ exterior display of upcycled pallet projects and live plants at the front of the FEC. “People create a sense of community at the events center during the Home and Garden Show,” Thompson said. “This year will really exemplify everything we do.” PeaceHealth joins innovative Health Wellness program COURTESY PHOTO A landslide near Heceta Head closed Highway 101. PeaceHealth Peace Harbor Medical Center has announced its participation in the National Rural Accountable Care Consortium (NRACC), a pro- gram designed to help rural Medicare patients live long, healthy lives. As part of the new program, Peace Harbor Medical Center will hire and train a care coor- dinator to work closely with patients, helping seniors stay healthy, get great care when needed and avoid costly and wasteful repetitive tests. Peace Harbor will also have access to important informa- tion that will help community physicians evaluate the servic- es of distant specialists, hospi- tals and other healthcare providers to make the best rec- ommendations for patients. “When our patients want support, they can come to us for advice and assistance,” said Rick Yecny, PeaceHealth CAO. “We will help them find the right healthcare providers, coordinate their care and help them get the best results.” Initially, Peace Harbor will introduce these new programs for Medicare patients, but hopes to expand to other types of insurance as well. The National Rural Accountable Care Consortium includes over 250 rural commu- nity health systems in 40 states, dedicated to helping rural providers achieve the highest level of healthcare quality, effi- ciency and customer service.
