ADAMS—Bruce William James Adams, 80, beloved hus- band of Kym Adams, passed away peacefully Feb. 2, 2016, at home in Salem, Ore., with his family by his side. He was born in Woolwich, England, in 1935, before his parents moved to Orpington, Kent, during the first year of his life. He survived the bombing of London during World War II as a youngster, including a V2 rocket attack, which impacted on his street and shattered win- dows in his house. He played as a soccer goalie for many years and also played cricket for the Cray Wanderers in St. Mary Cray. Bruce was proud to be a member of one of the oldest football clubs in the world. He served England in the Royal Air Force (RAF) as an aircraft mechanic specializing in cockpit instruments. Following his time in the RAF, Bruce worked as a tool- maker at Graham Farish Model Railroad Company and then at Amalgamated Dental Company as a dental equipment technician until 1969. Subsequently, he moved to Windsor, Pa., to work for Dentsply International, which recruited him from Amalgamated. He travelled the world as a salesman over three decades and retired from the company in 1998. Bruce claimed to have visited just under 100 countries during his lifetime and made many, many friends along the way. He made an impression on every- one he met thanks to his high integrity, kindness and conscien- tiousness. Those fortunate enough to get to know Bruce found themselves holding great respect for him. Along the way, he had many exciting and sometimes enter- taining experiences, including discovering actual KGB bugs in his hotel room in Moscow, meeting many international dig- nitaries (four of whom were later victims of unrelated assas- sinations) and bumping into Correta Scott King at an airport where he had the honor of giv- ing her change for a pay phone call. In 2003, Bruce and Kym moved across country to Florence, so that they could be close to their children. Bruce was a highly accomplished wood worker who often donated his skills towards friends, family and community projects. His handicap may not have shown it but he thoroughly enjoyed many years of playing golf. Bruce was preceded in death by his father, Victor Reginald Bruce Adams; and his mother, Dorothy Gwendoline Gwyther. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kym Adams; his chil- dren: Alexzander (Bridget) Adams, Djaylan Adams and Tim (Tracey) Adams; and six grand- children: Pierce Adams, Monique Labbate, Lily Adams, Christopher Adams, Michael Adams and Bryan Adams. His family will greatly miss him and requests that donations be made to either of the follow- ing organizations: RAM—Remote Area Medical, 2200 Stock Creek Blvd., Rockford, TN 37853.
