Children’s

of
Oregon Workshop (CROW)
will present the second annual
“Share Your Heart” fundraiser
at the Florence Events Center.
Aimed at raising significant
funds to help purchase and ren-
ovate the nonprofit group’s
new permanent arts facility for
kids, 3120 Highway 101, this
event will feature a silent auc-
tion, dessert auction, live enter-
tainment from the CROW kids
and some fantastic live auction
items.
One such item will be an art
print donated by Joshua Greene
of the Archives, LLC. The
print, titled “Marilyn Monroe
as Ballerina by the Bar,” is
approximately 16” x 20,” fea-
tures a poignant image of the
beautiful and famous movie
starlet, posed in a white gown,
and was framed by Tamara
Szalewski of Mindpower
Gallery in Reedsport.
In addition to being Florence
City Council president, and
dedicated to the enrichment
and sustainability of the
Florence community, Greene is
the son of legendary 20th
Century celebrity and fashion
photographer
Milton
H.
Greene.

Archives, LLC, as a way to
protect and restore his father’s
photographic legacy, as well as
to provide curating services for

Heart by Joshua Greene of The Archives, LCC
the 300,000 images in his
father’s collection.
Along the way, Joshua
became an expert in estate
curation, developing tech-
niques for selecting the most
important images from a
graphic, historical and financial
perspective.
This donation to CROW
makes a dramatic impact on the
“Share Your Heart” fundraiser,
in that the estimated value is
$1,500. However, to add an
exciting twist to the print’s cur-
rent value, Greene told CROW
artistic director, Melanie Heard
that he plans to “double the
retail value” of the print in
May. This means that in a few
short months, the print will be
worth $3,000.
The print is part of a collec-
tion titled: “The Anniversary
Edition” and was released in
June of 2006 in honor of
Monroe’s 80th birthday. It is
comprised of three Marilyn
Monroe images by Milton H.
Greene, from The Black Sitting
and The Ballerina Sitting.
There are 75 prints of each
image in this edition.
There are six artist proofs
and 14 exhibition prints, which
brings the edition total to 95
prints. Artist proofs are not
available to the public and kept
in-house at The Archives.
There are still tickets avail-
able for CROW’s “Share Your
Heart” fundraiser.
Doors will open at 6 p.m.,
and the event begins at 6:30
p.m. Tickets can be purchased
by calling 541-997-1994, or
online at www.eventcenter.org.
Tickets are $40 per person or
$300 for a table of eight.
Tickets include wine and hot
hors d’oeuvres.
CROW encourages local
businesses to sponsor a table,
and bring along colleagues and
friends for this memorable
evening benefitting local chil-
dren in the arts.

CROW program, including

Tsunami Safe program reaches out to hospitality industry
The Oregon Office of
Emergency
Management
(OEM) is bringing trainings
for “Tsunami Safe: Hospitality
Begins with Safety,” a free
program that focuses on tsuna-
mi awareness in the hospitality
industry along the Oregon
coast, to coastal communities.
It will be in Florence on
Wednesday, Feb. 24, from 9
a.m. to noon at Siuslaw Valley
Fire & Rescue, 2625 Highway
101.
Tsunami Safe is designed to
increase tsunami awareness by
educating all levels of employ-
ees in the hospitality industry,
informing overnight visitors to
the Oregon coast of the risk
and increasing disaster pre-
paredness throughout the hos-
pitality industry along the
coast, said OEM Geologic
Hazards
Awareness
Coordinator Karen Parmelee.
“Facilities that participate in
the program will be at the fore-
front of providing safety for
guests,” said Parmelee.
This round of trainings will
offer two components on each
date. The first component is
the introductory training for
facilities that have not already
received that training. The sec-
ond component is a disaster
planning training for hospitali-
ty industry management,
which has not been held previ-
ously. It is highly encouraged
that facilities attend both com-
ponents.
Hospitality industry busi-
nesses that are interested in
participating can sign up for

the driver’s door or door jamb, or in the vehicle owner’s

at least monthly when the tires are “cold,” which means
when your car hasn’t been driven for three hours or for
less than a mile at moderate speed.
