Dunes City is seeking vol-
unteers to help with the city’s
annual
Oregon
Dunes
Triathlon and Duathlon.
The event, which is sched-
uled for Saturday, May 7,
offers volunteers an opportu-
nity to watch their friends
and neighbors compete —
and
witness
potential
Olympic competitors as they
swim, bike and run their way
through Dunes City, Lane
County and Honeyman State
Park.

With 31 steals in the Eagles’ nest
Tuesday night in Eddyville, the Sailors
had plenty of opportunities to score.
And they did.
“We had a great defensive effort to
go along with balanced scoring,” said
Mapleton coach Jesika Crook, whose
team also had 21 rebounds at
Eddyville. “It was a nice victory for
us.”
Freshman guards Alyssa Richards

and Gabrielle Gibney, along with sen-
ior wing Hannah Rodet, each scored
eight points and combined for 19
rebounds.
“Gabrielle and Hannah had their best
games of the season offensively and
defensively,” said Crook. “They smoth-
ered Eddyville defensively.”
Gibney and Rodet teamed up for 13
steals between them in the 30-7 win.

The coho salmon fish-
eries in Siltcoos and
Tahkenitch lakes are slow
to fair. This time of year is
typically the most produc-
tive. Recent rains and big
tide should help to move
new fish into the lakes.
The West Lake Boat
Ramp at Siltcoos has been
close for repairs but there
is a neighboring private
ramp that can be utilized.
Look to fish near the lake
outlet and by the major
tributaries that enter the
lakes. Casting or trolling
spinners or various plugs
can be effective.

Thursday night’s doubleheader at
Glen Butler Court didn’t go the way
either of the Viking teams wanted, at
least on the scoreboard.
And while both games ended in a
loss for Siuslaw, players and coaches
walked away knowing that this
rebuilding year is showing steady
progress and growth
“We’re getting there,” said boys’
team senior guard Kenneth Thrall.

“We’ve got something we can build
on now and next year.”
For the girls, at 1-5 in league play,
Siuslaw will essentially need to go
undefeated for the rest of the season
with the Far West’s two best teams —
Marshfield and Brookings-Harbor —
on the schedule for next week.
