Next Starlight Cabaret
to focus on love songs
The Starlight Cabaret, a
bi-monthly celebration of
local musical talent, will
host “Moonlight and Love
Songs,” on Wednesday, Feb.
10, at 6 p.m., at the Florence
Unitarian
Universalist
Fellowship, 87738 Highway
101 and Heceta Beach Road.
Six talented and profes-
sional musicians and vocal-
ists will perform nostalgic
love songs, original compo-
sitions and contemporary
hits on piano, guitar, flute,
bass, strings and harmonica.
Sing-along sheets will be
handed out so the audience
can join in the fun.
Attendees may bring
snacks and their own bever-
ages. Coffee and water will
be provided.
This event is free but
“love offerings” are appreci-
ated to support the musi-
cians.

pot of soup is all it might take to transform a street into a community, according to Portland-area author
Maggie Stuckey (second from right). She presented her book, “Soup Night,” and her philosophy on good
food and community spirit in two events at Siuslaw Public Library last week. From left, Friends of the
Siuslaw Public Library (FOL) volunteers Vicki Sieber-Benson and Susy Lacer, librarian Kevin Mittge, Stuckey and
FOL volunteer Geraldine McMahan. The three FOL volunteers made soups from “Soup Night” recipes: African
peanut soup, taco soup and potato cheese soup. In total, more than 55 people attended the Soup Night events
Jan. 27 and 28 in Florence and Mapleton, respectively.

home to train a village full of potential panda warriors to overcome the dark,
