L AKE : 65 It was a tale of two halves for the Mapleton girls Friday night, as they played the third place Lakers (6-2) to a virtual stalemate during the first two periods. Trailing 18-16 entering the half, the Lady Sailors quickly found themselves down 28-16 just four minutes into the third quarter. The only scoring for the Sailors came from freshman post Alyssa Richards, who sank two baskets in the period as Triangle Lake moved ahead 34-20 to start the final quarter. Richards went on to lead Mapleton with 13 points, nine rebounds, one steal and two blocked shots. Alexis Gierke and Destiny Weber had four points each, along with two points each from Hannah Rodet and Josi Hays. The Lakers began the fourth period with four consecutive steals to take a 40-20 lead en route to a 46-26 win. Siuslaw News After nine hours of bowling, both the Siuslaw boys and girls teams qual- ified for the annual Oregon State bowl- ing championships during last Sunday’s District 4 competition at Firs Bowl in Eugene. The Lady Vikings qualified by fin- ishing third behind North Bend and district champion Cottage Grove. The Viking boys became Siuslaw’s first District 4 championship team in the history of the program. In competition, the teams started with 20 qualifying Baker games, with ths top six teams going on to the semi- finals. In qualifying, both teams held third place to get to the semifinals. This time of year is typically the most produc- tive. Recent rains and big tide should help to move new fish into the lakes. The West Lake Boat Ramp at Siltcoos has been close for repairs but there is a neighboring private ramp that can be utilized. Look to fish near the lake outlet and by the major tributaries that enter the lakes. Casting or trolling spinners or various plugs can be effective.
