The Boys and Girls Club
of Western Lane County is
looking for volunteers to help
referee some of its kinder-
garten through 6th-grade bas-
ketball games beginning at
the end of this month.
There are six dates with a
total of 10 time slots to fill
for each game day.
Those who volunteer will
be eligible for a scholarships
either this year or in the
future.
A list of game dates in
need of officials is listed
below. Each alloted time
requires two referees, with
two games going on at the
same time that need officiat-
ing.
These dates include:
Jan. 30
Feb. 6, 13, 20 and 27.
Game times are 8:30 a.m.,
9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11:30
a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

The coho salmon fish-
eries in Siltcoos and
Tahkenitch lakes are slow
to fair. This time of year is
typically the most produc-
tive. Recent rains and big
tide should help to move
new fish into the lakes.

Ramp at Siltcoos has been
close for repairs but there
is a neighboring private
ramp that can be utilized.

“No one expected us to beat them,
so we went into it without any real

while, when we were only down by
one basket at the half, we realized
everything was clicking for us.
“We realized we could possibly
win.”

Tuesday, the Sailors owned the paint
all night defensively, scooping up 21
steals and posting 12 blocked shots.
In addition, sophomore post
Dominic Wells had his best game of
the season, scoring 13 points off the
glass and nabbing 15 rebounds to go
with eight steals and six blocked shots.
“It was a commanding win for us,
and an outstanding performance from
Dominic,” said Maplston coach Will
Crook. “It was without question the
best game of his young career.
Offensively, he was tough in the paint.
“Defensively, he was a nightmare

for McKenzie.”
Junior guard Hunter Simington was
just as much a nightmare from the 3-
point range, sinking 3-of-4 shots from
beyond the arc. Off the glass,
Simington claimed 11 rebounds to go
with his double-double 11 points on
the night.
Off the bench, sophomore guard
Gene Carnes provided another offen-
sive spark, scoring eight points.
Inside the paint, freshman Gabe
Simington also had eight points, along
with 11 boards and three blocked
shots.
