CROW invites public to ‘Share Your Heart’
Florence-based youth theatre
organization, Children’s reper-
tory of Oregon Workshops
(CROW), will present “Share
Your Heart 2016,” a Valentine’s
Day themed fundraiser featur-
ing performances by the CROW
children, as well as silent and
live auctions, a dessert auction,
kissing booth and a new
“Heartbreaker” game.
Tickets include wine and hot
hors d’ oeuvres.
In the spring of 2015, an
investor temporarily secured
CROW’s new home, located at
3120 Highway 101 in Florence.
This generous gesture allowed
CROW to begin renovations on
the facility, with hopes of open-
Citizen
ing its doors to permanent, high-
quality arts instruction for local
children. CROW is actively
writing grants and reaching out
to the community in hopes that
it can raise $220,000 in time to
permanently secure the building
— but time is running out and
CROW needs the community’s
help.
“Please join us for this cele-
bration of how the arts can
make a difference in the life of a
child,” said CROW artistic
director Melanie Heard. “Share
your heart and we promise to
melt yours.”
The Share Your Heart event
will be Saturday, Feb. 13, begin-
ning at 6:30 p.m. at the FEC.

FUUF to host Starlight
Cabaret of Wonder Friday
Just recently returning from
her debut West Coast tour,
Wonder offers a collection of
whimsical, autobiographical
songs to listeners.
Each song comes accompa-
nied by the promise of an expe-
rience that is not plastic and
impervious, but real and
human.
Wonder’s hope is to to turn
the tables on the pursuit of
answers to life’s haunting
questions through her perform-
ances, inspiring others to
become obsessed with the ask-
ing questions.
With soaring melodies and
poignant lyrics, Wonder is here

Prior to that, Leskin
worked as an intern assistant
to the general manager of the
Port of Cascade Locks.
In addition to earning a law
degree from Lewis and Clark
College in 1992, Leskin has
received the Pacific Coast
Congress of Harbor Managers
Certification Level III and
Port Operator certification.
Leskin spent 23 years as an
attorney and municipal judge
in Oregon.
“I was an attorney for 23
years in Portland,” Leskin
said. “I needed a break and I
wanted to do something that I
felt passionate about. I have
been a sailor most of my life
and I wanted to work in a
maritime environment.
“When I was deciding to
make a career change and
exploring whether being a
port manager was a viable
option, I spoke with port man-
agers all over the state. There
are 23 port managers in
Oregon and I spoke with 21
of them,” he added.
Leskin was one of two final
candidates port commission-
ers interviewed during the
second round of applicant
interviews.
After the first round, a spe-
cial meeting was held on Nov.
18 but commissioners could
not reach a consensus on any
of the first round applicants.
Port of Siuslaw Board
President Ron Caputo said,
“When he made his presenta-
tion, he was very thorough

and probably gave the best
presentation. He has port
experience. He was very pro-
fessional and we unanimously
selected him.”
Interim port manager Dina
McClure said that Leskin’s
background as an attorney
should benefit the port. She
was also pleased to know that
he had worked with the Port
of Bandon to update the port’s
ordinances, a project that is
on her “to do” list.
“He researched what we
have done in the past so well
that I learned a couple of
things from his presentation,”
Caputo said. “It looks like he
will do a very nice job for the
Port of Siuslaw. We are very
pleased to bring him on
board.”
“I’m very happy for the
opportunity,” Leskin said,
“and look forward to moving
to Florence and becoming a
part of the community. It is a
great port. I am looking for-
ward to working with the
commissioners and the staff.”
