Hillsbery’s work to be included in national show
FLORENCE — Local watercolorist
and teacher Carole Hillsbery was recently
accepted into the 95th National
Watercolor Society’s International Show
in San Pedro, Calif., for her painting
“Morning Paper.”
It is a high honor to be accepted as one
of only 80 national and international
paintings chosen to hang in this month-
long show.
“Morning Paper” features one of
Florence’s unique individuals perusing the
newspaper while enjoying the morning
ambiance that the community has to offer.
In it, Hillsbery invites the viewer to look
and think of the underlying idea she is
sharing in her painting as she views her-
self a storyteller — and water and paint
her medium.
To celebrate her acceptance into this
prestigious show, Hillsbery invites the
public to share her exploration of artistic
vision at a free watercolor demo in her
home studio.
During her Absolute Beginner’s water-
color demonstration, Hillsbery will paint
a fun loose watercolor demonstrating the

NOW AVAILABLE FOR SECOND ANNUAL
FLORENCE — Anyone who’s ever
had a really big dream knows that the
word “impossible” can’t be part of the
vocabulary.
Artistic
director
and
CROW
(Children’s Repertory of Oregon
Workshops) founder Melanie Heard said
that big dreams “bring a rare combination
of feeling excited and terrified at the same
time.”
It was Heard’s dream of establishing
and renovating a building to house the
program’s many set pieces, as well as
rehearsals and workshops, that led to pur-
chase and renovation of the new building
CROW was able to establish last year —
thanks in large part to funds raised during
the 2015 Share Your Heart event.
On Friday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. CROW
will present an incredible opportunity for
the Florence community to become per-
sonally involved in continuing to sup-
port the dreams of local youth and the
arts.
“Share Your Heart is a fundraising
party like nothing you’ve ever attend-
ed,” said Heard.
“It’s designed to raise funds for our
nonprofit to continue pursuing our
dreams for CROW.”
Reservations are required for this
event at the Florence Events Center.
Single tickets are $39 for adults
and $25 for youth (12 and under). A
full table of eight can also be pur-
chased for $285.
Tickets include wine (adults only)
and hot hors d’oeuvres, as well as a
chance to bid on the amazing baskets,
prizes and desserts up for grabs.
For tickets, visit the Florence
Events Center box office, 715 Quince
home studio and learn about this exciting
medium.
Hillsbery has helped multiple students
conquer their fear of making a mistake by
painting wet on wet with a lot of splatter-
ing and flinging of paint. Such jubilation
is at the very core of her artistry.
She paints with vivid colors, shapes and
a sense of light with an edgy impression-
istic approach, and executes her watercol-
ors on both paper and canvas.
Future Absolute Beginner classes will
be held Thursday mornings from 10 a.m.
to 1 p.m., from March 10 through 31.
The first session will run from 10 a.m.
to 2 p.m. to give time for additional
instruction.
There is a limit of eight students in this
set of classes, so register early by emailing
Charlene Wilson at charwilson66@
gmail.com, or call 541-997-8676.
You can view Hillsbery’s work at the
Artists’ Co-op in Lincoln City,
Earthworks Gallery in Yachats, Backstreet
Gallery in Florence, the Mind Power
Gallery in Reedsport or on her website at

Hillsbery is a national award-winning
artist and a signature member of the
Transparent Watercolor Society of
America, Western Federation of
Watercolor Societies, the Arizona
Watercolor Association, and the
Watercolor Society of Oregon.
