blankets
Siuslaw Outreach Services
(SOS) has had so many
requests for blankets in the
past several weeks that it has
none left.
Anyone in the community
who is willing to donate blan-
kets and other warm winter
gear can do so by dropping
them off at the SOS office,

Firefighters
remove old
holiday trees
Siuslaw Valley Fire and
Rescue (SVFR) volunteers
will be picking up Christmas
trees on Tuesday, Dec. 29,
from 4 to 9 p.m. and
Saturday, Jan. 2, from 9 a.m.
to noon.
Call 541-997-3212 to
schedule one of the two
dates.
The SVFR Firefighters
Association is asking for a $5
donation to assist in its vari-
ety of programs.
All of the trees will be
recycled by the City of
Florence as bark mulch.

Oregon coast for the Civil
Conservation Corps.
He learned along side his
father how to fall timber in
the day of cross-cut saws,
spring boards and old growth
timber.
In later years, he partnered
with Lloyd Dunn, Walter
Brog and Don Johnson to
form DBJK Logging.
Survivors include his sons:
Robert, of Sweethome; James
and daughter-in-law Carol, of
Oregon City; and John of
Deadwood; as well as sever-
al grandchildren, great-
grandchildren and great-
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death
by his wife, Dorothy; his
children Shirley and Daniel;
and his brother, Harvey.

Florence, and grew up in
Canary enjoying gardening,
fishing, hunting and baseball.
He attended school in
Florence by riding his horse
from Canary to Glenada to
catch the ferry across the
Siuslaw River and on to
school.
He and his wife Dorothy
Barrett were married June 9,
1934.
As a young man, Bob
worked clearing brush and
building structures along the
