MID COAST LAKES
The coho salmon fish-
eries in S ILTCOOS and
T AHKENITCH lakes are
slow to fair. This time of
year is typically the most
productive. Recent rains
and big tide should help to
move new fish into the
lakes.
The West Lake Boat
Ramp at Siltcoos has been
close for repairs but there
is a neighboring private
ramp that can be utilized.
Look to fish near the lake
outlet and by the major
tributaries that enter the
lakes. Casting or trolling
spinners or various plugs
can be effective.
Fishing for the various
warm water fish species
tends to be slower during
the winter months. There
are numerous lakes in the
Florence area that can pro-
vide good opportunity and
have both boat and bank
access.
SIUSLAW RIVER:
Chinook, steelhead
The fall Chinook fishery
is very slow and basically
over for the season. Any
remaining fish are in
spawning condition.
December is considered
to be the start of the winter

It may not have been the outcome
the Sailors were looking for on the
hardwood Tuesday night at Triangle
Lake, falling to the Lakers 56-5, but
Mapleton coach Jesika Crook said the
results on the scoreboard didn’t
reflect the positives she saw from off
the bench.
“Our team actually played one of
its best games of the season,” said
Crook. “Although we didn’t score as
much as we wanted to, the team
played well together.”
Junior point guard Josi Hayes had a
breakout game at the boards, grabbing
18 rebounds in less than three periods
on the court for the Sailors.
“We continue to grow and
improve,” said Crook.
Hays also claimed two steals and
two points for Mapleton.
Senior Hannah Rodet had two
points to go with a pair of steals, and
senior Destiny Weber had a free
throw, two rebounds and a steal.
Alexis Gierke, a freshman, nabbed
three rebounds and three steals.
Alyssa West, also a freshman, had
four boards and a steal.

The Mountain West League season
opened for business Tuesday at
Triangle Lake, with the Sailors turn-
ing in a solid performance in a losing
effort, 59-32.
At 4-0, Mapleton coach Will Crook
says he’s pleased with his team’s
efforts and determination to battle
each game, from first to last buzzer.
“We get better with each game,”
said Crook. “And they keep fighting
no matter what the scoreboard says.”

After keeping things close through
the first half, the Sailors struggled
through the third quarter with poor
passing that provided the Lakers with
opportunities to nab turnovers off of
steals and missed cues.
“They were able to build a lead on
us that we couldn’t overcome,” said
Crook.
