New monuments should recognize veterans and wars not already recognized. Grants for restoration could be used for broken monuments, miss- Club ing elements of monuments or the related design elements of monuments for veterans or earlier wars. This includes an emergency kit of food, water, first-aid sup- plies, batteries, flashlights, a radio and other supplies. He also advised having an escape route and a designated meeting place in mind. “Most of this has to be done before the storm hits. You might not be able to call 911. You might have to provide your own 911 service,” Kreitz said. Other than tree hazards, there was also a threat of flood- ing along the Siuslaw River and other coastal creeks. Trees fell on properties, power lines and across roads. Western Lane Ambulance District and Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue responded when this tree crashed onto a home on Buck Lake Road.
