Deadwood man dies in hit and run
S TAFF R EPORT
Siuslaw News
Oregon State Police (OSP)
is continuing its investigation
into the death of a Deadwood
man on Sunday morning.
Shiloh Sundstrom, 34, a
graduate from Mapleton High
School.
He was working as a teach-
ing assistant at Oregon State
University and earning his
Ph.D. from the College of
Earth, Ocean and Atmo-
spheric Science.
On Nov. 22, at about 10:10
a.m., OSP troopers and emer-
gency personnel responded to
a call on Highway 34 near
milepost 1, just east of
Corvallis. The caller reported
that a pedestrian had been
struck by a vehicle.
Upon emergency crews
arriving on scene, they locat-
ed a deceased male, later
identified as Sundstrom, on
the shoulder of the highway.
Preliminary information
indicates the male was on the
south side of Highway 34
when he was struck by a vehi-
cle that fled the scene.
According to the OSP, evi-
dence left at the scene indi-
cated the vehicle was possi-
bly a white Suzuki.
The driver and vehicle
involved in the incident have
been located, but names and
other details have not been
released. Detectives from the
OSP Criminal Investigations
Division are continuing the
investigation.
OSP was assisted by
Corvallis Police, Corvallis
Fire
and
the
Oregon
Department of Transporta-
tion.
