Hunger hurts families, children, seniors,
and disabled persons in our community. This
past year, children represented 30% of those
needing emergency food boxes in Florence and
36% of those served were seniors. Research
has proven that hunger and malnutrition can
lead to irreversible health problems later in life,
and children who are hungry have diffi culty
concentrating and learning in school. In a
recent Food Share survey, our clients expressed
how important this program is to them:
• Keeps us from starving
• It has been a blessing to have this available to
me and my family
• We have run out of food usually, and the Food
Share feeds us.
• It has made a huge relief to know my family
will have something to eat when times are
tough.
• Food Share eliminates the need for me to
choose between buying prescriptions or
eating.
• It helps us eat.
• Puts the kids at ease
• Helped me feed my kids when I couldn’t.
• Helped when times are bad.
• I feel I have been treated with respect and
dignity.
• We eat more fruit than before.
• We wouldn’t make it through the last week of
the month without it.
• I was almost out of food. It helped.
• I had no food whatsoever.
• It put food in my kids! Helped out a lot.
• Helps us survive.
• It guarantees I eat all month.
• Saved my daughter and I from not knowing
what or when we eat again.
• Food Share eliminates the need for me to
choose between paying utility bills or eating.
