URGO—Margaret “Marge”
M. Urgo, passed away Feb. 2,
2015 at the
age of 91.
Marge
was born
June
22,
1923,
in
N
e
w
Britain,
Conn., to
Frank and Margaret Urgo
M a r y
Kummer. She had two siblings,
Mary and Louis, who preceded
her in death.
Marge lived and grew up in
Newington, Conn. It was there
she lived until she met and mar-
ried Eugene Urgo in Brooklyn,
NY., on Jan. 10, 1943. After
marriage, Marge and Gene lived
on Long Island, N.Y., and had
four children. In later years,
when their children moved to
the West Coast, they then
moved to Watsonville, Calif.
It was there they both lived
until Gene passed away in 1988.
In 1990, Marge moved to
Florence.
A homemaker and always an
involved parent volunteer
throughout her children's youth,
it was in her later years that she
became an active community
volunteer in Florence. Marge
was involved in her church, St.
Mary’s, Our Lady of the Dunes
Catholic Church, and for a while
she also sang with the Florence
Community Choir.
Marge was also a part of the
Peace Harbor Auxiliary, where
she served as president for two
years and then later continued
on happily as part of the
“Tuesday Group.” Marge also
volunteered at the Siuslaw
Pioneer Museum.
She was especially fond of
giving tours and sharing the his-
tory of the Florence area and our
great country. Marge took great
pride in serving and helping oth-
ers.
Although Marge suffered
much heartache during her life-
time by losing her first son,
Thomas, at age 3; her husband,
Gene, in a plane accident at age
70; and also battling but beating
colon cancer and melanoma, it
was through her strong faith in
God that her love of life never
faltered.
Marge, always with a smile,
would tell anyone she met how
blessed she was. Truly one who
loved life, her family and God.
She is greatly missed and will
be forever loved.
Marge is survived by her
two sons: Michael and his
wife Cynthia Urgo of
LaHonda, Calif., James his
and wife Gwenn Urgo, of
Carmel Valley, Calif.; and a
daughter, Mary-Jean (MJ)
Church and husband, Dave, of
Florence; five grandchildren:
Creighton, Kelsey, Ashley,
Hallie and Seabre; and one
great-grandchild, Evie Rose.
A memorial service for
Marge will be held Sunday,
Nov. 8, at 2 p.m., at Burns’s
Riverside Chapel Florence
Funeral Home.

the North Henry Holden
Fork Valley
on March 10, 1923, to Henry
and Pearl (Woosley) Holden. He
was the sixth of seven children.
He grew up on the North Fork
family ranch until he joined the
Army during World War II.
He was a sergeant in the
1000th Treadway

After the war, he moved to

crews in Alaska for a few years
until he decided to build his own
boat in the family back yard.
The boat was 48 feet long and
15 feet wide. Five years later he
launched it at the Murphy log
dump. He found out that he got
seasick and eventually sold the
boat.
It is still an active vessel out
of Newport.
Wally invented the Holden
Line Horse, which was a
machine he built to roll up log-
ging cable in the woods. He
built 83 of these machines him-
self before selling the patent.
Wally worked for the forest
service for several years before
