Jr. Viks win two more
On Oct. 15, in a rematch of last season’s League
Championship game, the Boys and Girls Club fifth-
sixth-grade tackle football team traveled to Waldport
to battle the Siletz Jr. Warriors. Relying on the
strength of their defense and two 40-yard touchdown
passes, the Jr. Vikings avenged last year's loss by a
score of 14-6. Barely catching their breath, the Jr.
Vikings saddled up to meet the Toledo Jr. Boomers
the following Saturday, Oct. 17. Siuslaw showed its
heart with its highest offensive output this season,
including a 70-yard punt return for a score. The
defense also chipped in with a key goal-line stand and
a quarterback sack to win 28-14. The Jr. Viks will be
back in action this Saturday, Oct. 24, when they host
Siletz at Hans Petersen Field in Florence. Kickoff is
scheduled for 11 a.m.

the Sailors ahead 8-0.
Siletz was able to put together
its own five-play drive on its next
possession, scoring from the 7-
yard line but having the conver-
sion attempt denied by a quick-
footed Wells who was able to
break up the pass and keep the
Sailors on top, 8-6.
After receiving the kickoff,
Mapleton was able to get to with-
in 23 yards of the Siletz end zone
before losing yards on the next
two plays and eventually giving
the ball up on downs at the 50-
yard line.
With a chance to take the lead,
the Warriors tied to get some
momentum going. On the second
play of the series, the ball got
loose, with Mapleton sophomore
Cole Spencer claiming posses-
sion for the Sailors on their own
34-yard line.
Simington was able to reach
the 50-yard line on a keeper, then
connected on a 27-yard pass to
Wells for a touchdown and 14-6
lead after being denied the con-
version attempt.
At the top of the second quar-
ter, Mapleton forced the Warriors
to give the ball up on downs.
Packebush got a 37-yard carry to
the Siletz 35. Another keeper
from Simington, and the Sailors
had reached the red zone on the
Warriors’ 19-yard line.
Simington carried to the 8-
yard line for a first down, then
tossed a two-yard touchdown
pass to Packebush, who also
scored the conversion.
Up 22-6, Mapleton looked to
be in the driver’s seat.
But Siletz was able to respond
and close the gap to eight points
after a score and conversion.

Junior Tyler Packebush, senior Chet Geddes and sophomore Dominic Wells celebrate a defen-
sive stop against Siletz with senior Trevver D’Auteuil.
The Sailors got the ball with
4:22 left in the half. Three plays
later, Packebush was in the end
zone on a 33-yard carry. On the
conversion, Simington scram-
bled backwards under heavy
pressure from the Warriors’
defense, but still found Foster on
a 20-yard pass for the conversion
— and a 30-14 lead.
Though Siletz was able to
score once more before the half,
Mapleton still had a 30-22 lead
heading into the break.
Unfortunately for the Sailors,
the Warriors dominated the sec-
ond half on both sides of the ball,
holding Mapleton scoreless for
the final two periods while post-
ing 38 unanswered points for a
60-30 win.
Friday, the Sailors will be at
home for senior night, when they
host the Mountain West League’s
third-place team from North
Douglas (3-1).
Kickoff is 7 p.m.
