This award is for the fall and spring semesters. Laing is presently attending Lane Community College working toward realizing her ambition of becoming a registered nurse. Florence chapter DY of the International PEO Sisterhood was her sponsor. These grants are highly competitive and only the top applicants are suc- cessful in receiving funds from the program. The backyard burning sea- son, also known as open burn- ing or outdoor burning, is determined by the Lane County Fire Defense Board. Extended dry and hot condi- tions continue to keep fire dan- ger levels high. The delay means that there will be no backyard burning for certain areas in Lane County this year. Fall open burning will be banned for res- idents inside Oakridge city limits, Eugene Urban Growth Boundary and Springfield Urban Growth Boundary.
