LONG—Timothy “Timmy”
Long passed away at home
with his lov-

his side on

14,
Timothy Long 2015, after a
long
and
courageous battle with COPD.
Tim was born in Tillamook,
Ore., to Gordon and Bethal
Long.
Tim is survived by his loving
wife of 44 years, Shirley; his
sisters: Gelene (Boise) and
Debra (Salem), who were very
dear to him; many aunts,
uncles, nieces and nephews;
many dear and close friends,
especially “adopted” daughter
Cynthia (Ole); “adopted”
mother Mamma Saari; god-
daughter Melissa; and his
“Geritol Group” quad buddies.
He was preceded in death by
his parents and his brother,
Rodger.
Tim was a man of great
honor, honesty, integrity and
compassion who always saw
both sides of every situation.
He would put the needs of oth-
ers before his own.
He dutifully served in the
U.S. Army with a tour of
Vietnam. He was very proud of
serving as a combat infantry-
man.
A celebration of his life will
be held Saturday, Sept. 26, at 2
p.m., at New Life Lutheran
Church on Spruce Street.
Come celebrate Tim’s life
and to share “Timmy” stories.

HILDEBRAND—Helen H.
Hildebrand, 76, of Florence,
passed away Sept 2., 2015.
She was born Feb. 24, 1939,
in Parkston, S.D., to Otto and
Maria Hildebrand.
Helen was the seventh of
eight children born in the same
farmhouse.
Her oldest sister and hus-
band, George and Eldora
VanCurler, passed away previ-
ously, as did her brother-in-law
Charles Barr of Eugene.
Helen’s parents moved the
family to Oregon in 1943 and
eventually settled in Goshen,
Ore., where

graduated

Springfield
High School
Helen
in 1957.
Hildebrand
After her
father’s death in 1957, the fam-
ily relocated to Florence, where
she went to work for the
Siuslaw News until she retired
in 1999.
Helen loved the ocean and
was an avid fan of Nascar’s
Earnhardt family and greatly
enjoyed watching the races.
Helen and her sister Betty
made many trips to the Seattle
area to visit her niece Lisa, her
husband Ric Pierce and their
child Sam; Helen was like a
second mother to Lisa.
She was a very caring and
gentle person who will be
greatly missed.
She is survived by sisters
Lillian Barr and Ruth
Hildebrand of Eugene; her
brother Roland and wife
Virginia, of Euless, Texas;
brothers Loren Hildebrand,
Willard
Hildebrand
and
wife Mary, all of Florence;
her sister Betty, also of
Florence; and many nieces and
nephews and their extended
families.

Florence Funeral Home is in
