Fishing
from 1B
The cutthroat trout fishery is
fair in the lower reaches of the
river and in upper tide water
for sea runs. Fishing during
the early mornings or near the
larger tributaries is the most
productive.
ALSEA RIVER: Chinook,
coho, cutthroat trout
The fall Chinook fishery is
producing fair results so far
this season. Anglers are having
the best action fishing from
the lower bay up to Taylors
Landing during the incoming
tide. Forecasted rain may
move fish up to the head of
tide and possibly a bit further.
The wild coho fishery starts
extends through Oct. 15 With
a daily bag limit of 1 adult
coho and seasonal limit of 2
adult coho (in aggregate with
other areas with the same bag
limit).
The lower bay typically pro-
duces the best results early in
the season.
Cutthroat trout fishing is
fair in the lower mainstem
below the confluence with
Five Rivers. With the low and
warm river conditions the best
opportunities will be in the
early morning when water
Far West.
Freshman standout Murray
Bingham, younger brother to
girls’ team runner Morgan, led
the Viking boys with a time of
17:41.4 for 17th individually.
Other finishers for the Viks
included sophomore Kyle King
(18:20.0) in 30th, senior Tyler
Williams (18:45.2) in 43rd, soph-
omore Isaac Griffes (18:48.1)
just a few steps away in 48th,
sophomore Jordan Northrop
(19:05.6) in 61st, sophomore
Ricky Huff (21:36.2), freshman
Robert Mans (21:46.6) and soph-
omore
Andrew
Rannow
(21:47.7).
Grants Pass won the team title
with 50 points.
This weekend, the Vikings
will host the 27th annual
Woahink Invitational, which will
include 25 teams and nearly
1,000 runners competing in mul-
tiple divisions, from middle
school to high school varsity.
The first race will begin at
10:30 a.m. at the East Woahink
Day Use Area.
temperatures are the coolest.
Small spinners are typically
productive as wells as small
spoons or fly fishing with
nymphs or streamers.
SALMON RIVER: Chinook,
cutthroat trout
The fall Chinook fishery is
off to a fair start by boat and
bank anglers catching fish
from the month of the bay
through tide water. Trolling or
casting lures or baits during
the incoming tide can be effec-
tive.
Cutthroat trout fishing from
upper tide water through the
lower river can be effective
during the early mornings with
sea runs moving through this
time of year.
SILETZ RIVER: Chinook,
coho, steelhead, cutthroat
trout
The fall Chinook fishery has
been producing some fair
results in the lower bay up to
the Chinook Bend area.
Trolling or bobber fish
through the high slack seem to
be the most productive. Cooler
temperatures and forecasted
rain may move fish closer to
the head of tide this week and
move more fish into the sys-
tem.
The wild coho fishery con-
tinues through Nov. 30 with a
daily bag limit of 1 adult coho
and seasonal limit of 2 adult
coho (in aggregate with other
areas with the same bag limit).
The lower bay and tide water
section typically produces the
best results early in the season.
Summer steelhead fishing is
slow in the mid to lower river.
The upper river above
Moonshine Park is still closed
to public entry because of high
fire danger.
Cutthroat trout can be found
in most sections with sea runs
found in the mid to lower river
this time of year.
YAQUINA RIVER: Chinook,
coho, cutthroat trout
Anglers are catching fall
Chinook from the lower bay
up to the Canyon Quarry boat
launch area. Trolling herring
or spinners during the incom-
ing tide through the high slack
is a good option.
The wild coho fishery con-
tinues through Nov. 30 with a
daily bag limit of 1 adult coho
and seasonal limit of 2 adult
coho (in aggregate with other
areas with the same bag limit).
The lower bay up to the air-
port boat ramp typically pro-
duces the best results early in
the season.
Cutthroat trout fishing is
slow to fair from upper tide
water to the lower reaches on
the mainstem. The mainstem
Yaquina and Big Elk Creek are
good places to try casting
small spinners or spoons as
well as bait fishing near the
head of tide.
COOS COUNTY LAKES
PONDS: Largemouth
AND
bass, bluegills
Fishing for largemouth bass
and bluegills has been good in
many of the Coos County
lakes. Fishing for bass will be
best in the very early mornings
and late evenings. Fish for
bluegills around structure like
submerged logs and weed
lines.
UMPQUA RIVER, SOUTH:
Steelhead
The mainstem South
Umpqua upstream to Jackson
Creek Bridge is open to fish-
ing, with trout fishing being
strictly catch and release.
Catch and release trout fishing
in South Umpqua tributaries
below Jackson Creek Bridge
are also open, with fishing
restricted to the use of artifi-
cial flies and lures.
Smallmouth bass fishing
should be productive especial-
ly in the morning and late
afternoon/early evening.
