Fishing during the early mornings or near the larger tributaries is the most productive. ALSEA RIVER: Chinook, coho, cutthroat trout The fall Chinook fishery is producing fair results so far this season. Anglers are having the best action fishing from the lower bay up to Taylors Landing during the incoming tide. Forecasted rain may move fish up to the head of tide and possibly a bit further. The wild coho fishery starts extends through Oct. 15 With a daily bag limit of 1 adult coho and seasonal limit of 2 adult coho (in aggregate with other areas with the same bag limit). The lower bay typically pro- duces the best results early in the season. Cutthroat trout fishing is fair in the lower mainstem below the confluence with Five Rivers. With the low and warm river conditions the best opportunities will be in the early morning when water Far West. Freshman standout Murray Bingham, younger brother to girls’ team runner Morgan, led the Viking boys with a time of 17:41.4 for 17th individually. SILETZ RIVER: Chinook, coho, steelhead, cutthroat trout The fall Chinook fishery has been producing some fair results in the lower bay up to the Chinook Bend area. Trolling or bobber fish through the high slack seem to be the most productive. Cooler temperatures and forecasted rain may move fish closer to the head of tide this week and move more fish into the sys- tem. The wild coho fishery con- tinues through Nov. 30 with a daily bag limit of 1 adult coho and seasonal limit of 2 adult coho (in aggregate with other areas with the same bag limit). The lower bay and tide water section typically produces the best results early in the season. Summer steelhead fishing is slow in the mid to lower river. The upper river above Moonshine Park is still closed to public entry because of high fire danger. Cutthroat trout can be found in most sections with sea runs found in the mid to lower river this time of year. YAQUINA RIVER: Chinook, coho, cutthroat trout Anglers are catching fall Chinook from the lower bay up to the Canyon Quarry boat launch area. Trolling herring or spinners during the incom- ing tide through the high slack is a good option. The wild coho fishery con- tinues through Nov. 30 with a daily bag limit of 1 adult coho and seasonal limit of 2 adult coho (in aggregate with other areas with the same bag limit). The lower bay up to the air- port boat ramp typically pro- duces the best results early in the season. Cutthroat trout fishing is slow to fair from upper tide water to the lower reaches on the mainstem. The mainstem Yaquina and Big Elk Creek are good places to try casting small spinners or spoons as well as bait fishing near the head of tide. COOS COUNTY LAKES PONDS: Largemouth AND bass, bluegills Fishing for largemouth bass and bluegills has been good in many of the Coos County lakes. Fishing for bass will be best in the very early mornings and late evenings. Fish for bluegills around structure like submerged logs and weed lines. UMPQUA RIVER, SOUTH: Steelhead The mainstem South Umpqua upstream to Jackson Creek Bridge is open to fish- ing, with trout fishing being strictly catch and release. Catch and release trout fishing in South Umpqua tributaries below Jackson Creek Bridge are also open, with fishing restricted to the use of artifi- cial flies and lures. Smallmouth bass fishing should be productive especial- ly in the morning and late afternoon/early evening.
