SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 2015 Port from 1A Port Manager Bob Forsythe said, “I think Mike represented the board very well at the Wednesday meet- ing. His arguments and suggestions were well received. I look forward to him being a driving force on the board. I really think he has a good future with this board.” The port will have to develop a supplemental budget, as the new rate increase revenues will need to be offset by expendi- tures. “We don’t know how much that will be,” Forsythe said. “But we will have to do it soon. The board will then decide where the additional funds will be spent.” __________ Follow Jack on Twitter @SNews_Jack. Email him at jack@thesiuslawnews.com. Parks from 1A Stockdale said, “If it seems like some parks are getting more attention than others, it’s because they are. It’s because of where the funding comes from.” When the public spoke, they showed dissatisfaction with the plan. Heceta South Homeowners Association abuts Ocean Woods, and HOA representa- tives spoke out against the loss of the park. They said the park’s undeveloped aspects are a key part of living in the area. Some of the commenters spoke about the wildlife, including endangered species, and the seasonal birdwatching opportunities in the area. Some wondered if the money of the sale would bene- fit the 27 LCP coast parks, or if funds would go to parks in the 9 A Eugene area. And some claimed that the sale would be illegal, according to the original deed of the land. “We are information gather- ing,” Stockdale said. “Nothing in the plan is cement or stone. Whether you love it or whether you hate it, there’s going to still be refinement after this.” The county will do a redraft based on the public comment meetings that continue in October. At least one more draft is scheduled before the LCP Master Plan is finalized. To add comment to the draft plan, go to www.lanecounty. org/Departments/PW/Parks/ Pages/masterplan.aspx, email laneparks@co.lane.or.us, or call 541-682-2002 and ask to go on record. __________ Follow Chantelle on Twitter @SNews_Chantelle.
