Pacific Coast Wind Ensemble opens new season
The Pacific Coast Wind
Ensemble has a new concert
season planned and is calling
for new members.
An all-volunteer ensemble
welcoming beginners and
experts alike, the Pacific
Coast
Wind
Ensemble
rehearses
on
Monday
evenings from 6:30 to 8 p.m.,
alternating between Siuslaw
High School and Waldport
High School music rooms.
Its first rehearsal is sched-
uled for Sept. 21 at Crestview
Middle School in Waldport.
Current musicians come
from Toledo, Newport, South
Beach, Waldport, Ten Mile
and Florence. Many musi-
cians also play or have
played in other musical
groups such as The Florence
Brass, The Dave Craddock
Trio, Oregon Coast Chamber
Orchestra,
Florence
Community Chorus and The
Yachats Big Band.
PCWE’s season continues
into June, performing con-
certs in Florence and
Waldport as well as at the
Performing Arts Center in
Newport.
PCWE plays annually for
the Waldport High School
graduation ceremony.

The Pacific Coast Wind Ensemble will hold its first rehearsal Sept. 21.
Its current conductor is
retired teacher and multi-tal-
ented professional “reed
man” musician Lou Invernon.
In years past, the ensemble
has played for Rhody Days in
Florence, Beachcomber Days
in Waldport and the “La De
Da” celebration in Yachats.
The Pacific Coast Wind
Ensemble is a nonprofit
organization.
The community concert
band of the central Oregon
coast,
its
membership
includes about 40 enthusias-
tic and talented local musi-
cians of all ages who enjoy
coming together to make —
and share — music at local
concerts.

Like to sing? try out for Communtiy
Chorus’ ‘Appalatian Winter’
Interested singers from high
school age and older can still
join the Community Chorus of
Florence as it prepares for its
“Appalachian Winter” concert
to be presented Sunday, Dec.
13, at the Florence Event
Center. The deadline for join-
ing the Chorus is Wednesday,
Sept. 30.
Selections in addition to the
“Appalachian Winter” cantata
are “I Wonder as I Wander,”
“The Holly and the Ivy” and
other old favorites.
There will be opportunities
for solo performances during
the concert.
The
Siuslaw
Valley
Children’s Choir and The
Flotones will also perform at
the concert.
The Chorus rehearses every
Monday evening from 7 p.m.
to 8:30 p.m. at the Cross Road
Church at 10th and Maple
streets. There is a $60 fee to
participate, however a few
scholarships are available.
