Her last few years she lived
in Spruce Points Memory Care,
where she received great care
by the staff. She enjoyed her
weekly dinners and jaunts with
Georgia Virgil.
She will be missed.
Doris is survived by her chil-
dren: Georgia A. Medeiros
Sabourin and husband Virgil,
Joetta A. Medeiros Vienna,
Angelo K. Ornellas Simmons
and wife Mary; grandchildren:
Ashley Stone, Amber Stone,
Shawn Medeiros and Danielle
Vienna; great-grandchildren:
Jaden Medeiros and Sebastian
Medeiros; a brother, Burl Haag
and wife Pat; nieces: Betty Jean
Haag, Patty Haag Osterhout
and husband Kevin; and a
nephew, Craig Haag.
She was preceded in death by
her parents and sisters Patricia
Haag Wilson and Mary Belle
Haag Hensley.
A celebration of her life will
be held in Laughlin, Nev.
Donations in Doris’ name
can be made to the Florence
Hospice.
CHAMBERLEN —Gail
Farrell Chamberlen, 72, of
Florence, passed away Sept. 12,
2015.
Gail was born March 7,
1943, in Vineburg, Calif., to
Dale Farrell and Margaret
Rubke Farrell.
She graduated from San
Francisco State and taught
school in Central California.
In 1970, she married Fred
Chamberlen. They eventually
settled in the Sonoma area
where she was a bookkeeper
and then nursery manager at
Farrell’s Home and Garden
Center.
Gail and Fred moved to
Florence in 1990.
She was a lifelong animal
lover and one of those instru-
mental in beginning the
Florence Area Humane Society,
where she continued to help out
as a volunteer. She also loved to
travel, go camping and garden.
Gail was preceded in death
by her parents and her brother,
Ed Farrell.
Gail is survived by her hus-
band, Fred Chamberlen; a
brother, Bob Farrell; two
nieces: Roxanne Shockey and
Rachelle Mroczka; four great-
nieces and nephews; stepson
Richard (Rhonda) Chamberlen
and stepdaughter Deborah
(Chris Nottoli) Norton; step-
grandchildren Dylan Cammille
Chamberlen; and many ex-
tended-family members.
Per Gail’s request, there will
be no services.

RHODES —Douglas
Rhodes, 94, formerly a 10-year
resident of
Florence,
passed away
on Monday,
Sept.
7,
2015,
in
Portland,
Ore., after a
short illness.
Doug was
Douglas
born Nov.
Rhodes
25, 1920, in
Huddersfield, Yorkshire, Eng-
land, to Joseph and Lily
Rhodes.
He immigrated through
Canada to the United States and
became a citizen in 1965.
During the war, he was a
coal-mine foreman and spent
the next 48 years in the United
States as a machinist and tool-
maker.
He was preceded in death by
a brother. He is survived by
three daughters and three
grandchildren residing in the
U.S. There is also a sister, two
nephews and their children and
grandchildren, all residing in
England. He is also survived by
Maryann, his loving partner of
17 years.
Doug, who would have cele-
brated his 95th birthday this
year, enjoyed his walks with his
beloved Maltese, “Tucker,” and
was always up to a little adven-

ture, traveling around the area.
He was very interested in
real estate, politics and current
events. But his real love was
country western music and he
and Maryann greatly enjoyed
dancing at the Elks Club in
town. He owned numerous
homes and rental properties
during his time in Florence and
he was blessed to have such
great friends around him.
He will be missed.
Arrangements are being han-
dled by Burns’s Riverside
Chapel in Florence.
Per his request, there will be
a private service held in a few
weeks, and a celebration of his
life will be held at a later date.

She moved to Florence from
Dayton, Texas, 14 years ago
and was married to John
Bravenec, who preceded her in
death.
Doris worked in the food
service industry for many years.
She lived most of her life in
California. She also lived in
Oklahoma and Texas.
She came to Florence to be
the caretaker of Georgia
Virgil’s home and
loved
Oregon so much she stayed.
She enjoyed her trips up the
river, to Randy’s Riverview
Market for breakfast, and her
and Virgil in the boat.
She loved to travel. Even
though her memory was failing
